yay...so then i must be making good progress this year if u have her twin! ive got two more same age as her that no one but me can tell apart. i also have a few more bcms, blacks and blues growing out that are showing promise. i'm so excited

Currently, I have just the 1 Blue Copper Marans pullet who has just barely a hint of copper on her todate, what would you pair with her as far as a rooster(not that I have any but for down the road)?

Maybe I missed the information but I know someone mentioned that Blue Marans are still pretty hard to find- out of what breeding did this color come about or is it similar to the way the Blue Andalusian color was created?

Pink, no need to apologize! I think my girls are lovely. They are my favorite girls I have hatched so far. I do so wish they did not have the comb issues.

I think I may have to re home them to keep the temptation of breeding them away. I did cull my two boys. It was very hard. The one Gnarles boy was just so handsome. He was way to much of a temptation to use. I most definitely want more eggs from you Pink. Hopefully I can get some Bill blood. I have no usable roos at this time. I guess I will be hatching again and again.

If you are interested in just having blue copper Marans you can do this, I know it has been recommended not to use any black coppers produced from such a cross in a pen of black copper marans(these being produced from black copper x black copper) due to genetic differences(if I understood Don right). You might want to keep a black copper boy to help keep the lacing crip in the blue. Using splash copper x black copper will result in 100% blue copper. Depending on what your goal is, will also determine how you pick what chicken to keep. Some want dark egg layers, others follow the SOP when breeding. When choosing eggs to hatch it is recommended to pick the darkest ones and go from there. Hope this helps and maybe someone else will come back with more information.

That's exactly the info that I need to hear! I have never bred non-standard colors before (that do not result in 100% same color progeny) and I don't want to a) create sub-par birds or b) keep and breed anyone that will not result in bettering my flock! Right now, I have blue copper chicks that came from blue x blue and one black copper chick that came from black x black. I am wanting some more, and I am trying to figure out what makes sense... as in... Would it be good to have any splashes to play with? Again, I'm used to silver polish + silver polish = silver polish, etc, so my brain is warping at the possibilities!

with blue to blue matings you will get 25% black chicks, 50% blue chicks and 25% splash chicks. Spalsh paired with black is a good way to create 100% blue chicks. Spalsh is a dilute of blue, if you mate splash x splash you will end up with 100% splah but they will probably be more dilute compared to the parents. It takes a bit to get use to and if possible try and do parent to offspring matings instead of sibling matings so you keep away from too close inbreeding. Good Luck and have fun with your chickens- feel free to post pictures
