In so doing you must sbe careful to leave the legs and the cloaca clear and that the bandage isn't too tight and thus hindering the bird from breathing and eating properly. Depending on the species it can be necessary to put tape over the bandage. However, be careful that it doesn't stick to the feathers.

It is wise to fix the wingtips to the tail with another small bandage for securty..."

I kept him in the run cuz I didn't want to have to reintegrate him by separating him completely, but that may be futile with 6 roos and 6 pullets going through puberty

I think I need to just take the plunge and cull the three that don't look the best. The one that was being attacked is going for sure, really bad comb and he is the ugly duckling of the bunch any way. Now what other two to cull... I am afraid to cull they may look great in a few months.

i may send you some pics of the suspect boys. i could keep them but where???? can I stack them one on top of the other????

Logistics... chicken math... 31 more in the incubator and arriving in 14 more days

no problem! I am happy to help. When they really start to growing they can change pretty quickly....so if youget some updated pics of the ones you are thinking of culling and the ones you are thinking of keeping and I'll give ya my two cents. What age are they hitting now?

I was told they hatched mid may but i think they may have been some older, but that is my story and i am sticking to it

So tonight when i got home from work I went out to collect eggs before all the birds headed to bed for the night. I've been finding a couple Marans girls and an Ameraucana sneaking into the main part of the barn and laying eggs in a corner behind a roll of wire I have for my building project. Well....I took a peek behind there and got so excited! The color is starting to improve on the Marans egg. I'm pretty certain they are both splash girls...I grabbed a small shovel from the feed room...and reached back behind the roll to pull the eggs out...and what did I do?! I smashed the egg!!!! What a dink. I was gonna take a pic for you all cause I was so excited....

Being a klutz isn't so bad to live with til I go and do something like that. I'll have to keep watching for their eggs to keep getting richer in color as they get used to laying and try again.

Thanks Donna, I looked in at the Blacks this morning before heading out to work and saw one pip! Yeah!
