Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Congrats!!

I thought about showing at my local fair, but was afraid to bring home any germs!
I'd have to build a separate coop for the show birds!

Congratulations Tannis! That's awesome!

Yes, the offspring would lay olive colored eggs. EEs and OEs in reality, are mutts too.

Not all of the offspring that are produced from crossing a Marans and an EE, Ameraucana or Aruacana will produce offspring that will lay an olive colored egg. Only the offspring that have the peacomb will lay an olive colored egg and the shade of the olive color can vary greatly. There is something like a 3% chance that offspring from this cross that have the single comb will lay an olive egg....all of the ones that I have produced with the single comb have never laid an olive egg, nice and dark brown like the Marans , but a tad lighter.

LaMar is very pretty! Do you have a closer photo of him? I am not sure and maybe Gilavina can help out here but he looks to be Birchen to me and if he is ........I AM SO JEALOUS! I had a Birchen Splash roo and he was very pretty but he turned into not a nice guy at about 6-7 mos of age, I am glad your guy is nice.

Thanks for posting a photo of him. Tennessee looks beautiful too!

Morning Vicki!

I want some Blue Birchens running around here more than you know. I will be in heaven when I see Blue Birchens and Blue Coppers filling up my backyard.

might be...kind of thought it in the back of my mind, but would have to see a closer body pic and a pic of the saddle and hackle feathers close up. I have a birchen splash growing out right now that has most definite birchen markings....with the silverish markings on the neck...first one that shows the color. Its rather pleasing to the eye.

Ok...I must get to work! See ya all later!
