I don't know what's up with them. What are their combs and wattles looking like? Photos! Photos!

I have some stingy girls happening around here too, but they are not any of the Marans...ohhh wait..one is, the pure Davis Blue Copper pullet from this year, but I believe she has just started. Got another pullet egg yesterday. I will have to look on the calendar to say exactly how old she is, but she is over 6 mos. old too and just starting. But the ones that are being weird are my young Barnevelders. Start laying and lay for 2 weeks then....BAMMM!!! NADA! At least I managed to put a couple of her first eggies in the 'bator.

OMGosh!!!!!!!! OMGosh!!!!!!!! I just realized that those eggies in the 'bator go into lockdown on Friday morning!!!!!

I will try for some tonight. Combs and wattles are still not large and red, all my girls stay penned at all times so I know none are hiding eggs. I have even looked on the roofs and under stuff (DH thinks I am nuts)

Yes = which color is more desirable?

Augh - I think I'm going to either go nuts or deaf!
My 3mth guineas have decided to "move out" of their baby house/yard and are exploring further and further each day.
(come home at night to roost)

Today they are "stuck" in the pig field (electric fence) in the pouring rain and VERY unhappy!!
But they won't let me lead OR herd them out.....so.....

I need ear plugs!! (sigh...)

Yes i is crazy when they "forget" they can fly. Mine do it all the time! I have seen them "stuck" behind a split rail fence before.

aww...I get to live vicariously thru your hatchy hatching over there!! I'm having the hardest time not collecting eggs and hatching. Luckily I have a ton of other stuff to do and it keeps me just distracted enough

I'm lining up hatching eggs and chicks for next year already....I'm getting excited!!

Ordered some blue and blue/splash Marans eggs awhile ago. Hatched out some nice birds, mostly splash but this one cockerel is blue... but to me he looks to be barred> Is this just juvenile feathering or did I get a "blue cuckoo" Marans?

I hear that guineas are just loud! My neighbor, who is o.k. with my 30+ chickens in her yard, asked that I never get guineas. She is a very good neighbor, so no guineas for me.

Guineas can indeed be loud. I was at the outside brooder this morning when I heard a galloping sound... I turned, thinking to see a horse, and the whole blasted herd of guineas streaked by me to go get their morning snacks from under the chicken feeders! And they weren't even hollering... When they start hollering "come back" and making their noise like small-caliber gunshots, they get REALLY loud.
