Since Don said he believed she is "getting" white ear lobes.. .. is it possible for the ear lobe color to change and then return to the normal red.
For example, could stressers such as molting and broodiness temporarily affect ear lobe color?
I believe that these stressers CAN effect it yes.
I have a Wellie girl whose earlobes turned white, completely white, when she was about 6 mos. old. They stayed that way for about 10 days...funny thing is when the earlobes were white, so was her egg. I watched her closely because I didn't want her to be sick, she ate and drank fine and acted fine. I never did find out what was wrong with her and her earlobes went back to normal and so did her egg, once her earlobes were red again. Some said it may have been a fungal issue. She has never had that issue again.
I have also noticed in the Marans pen that some of the girls will have pale earlobes that look kinda white when they are not laying...just like their combs and face pale when they are not in lay. When they pick up laying again their color comes back. I have 4 gals in the pen right now that are not laying due to molt and their earlobes are light.
