I could use some Birchen eggs to put in my 'bator.

I do have a few splash birchens, none of the girls show the hackle markings, but some of the cockerels do. I'll see if I can get a pic of one of the oldest for you so you can see it. He has the most coloring. Its pleasing to look at. I am not sure he will make the cut for the winter as the blue boys in that pen outshine him by a fair bit. I have so many boys to choose from that it doesn't make culling easy at all. I needed to hatch out a lot this year tho to give me the best chances for next year's hatching. Especially where I didn't do a fall hatch.

That lavender silver sussex girl is getting her silver markings in and the top of her head has come in white and the contrast to the lavender on her round little head makes me melt.

I have noticed its similar here too...where the girls get uber friendly once they start laying. Its kind of comical to be followed around by a flock of 20 girls and 4 hulking giant boys. It makes me smile when I hear rustling of leaves behind me as I work outside. I loooove it!

Hi Kim! Hi Mel!

That's too bad about the marans not hatching. Those were those lovely dark eggs you put in the bator no? That's no good.

Glad you got some Barnies tho and hope that that broody stays steadfast for you. I've got a splash girl that has gone broody in the main part of the barn behind the milk stand. I took a peek under her today to see how many eggs she has...I could see 7, but didn't lift her up all the way because she was pecking the crap out of me. She's a fierce wanna be momma! I didn't mark down when I first found her going broody, but it easily has been at least 2 weeks....so any time in the next week or so I would think.

hahaha... Tooo funny! I'm hopeful with all the improvements I'm seeing in the line after each hatch. I can't wait until I feel like they are good enough that I would be proud to pass them on to others. I've told several people the same thing. I feel very convicted that I don't want people to have the same struggle I've had with them when I first started. You can bet that once I start seeing the possibility of shipping eggs I will let you know!

Yeah and lav silver sussex too LOL!

haha...you will not be forgotten Lynette! I'm determined to get these birchens where I know they can be! I feel fortunate to have watched my dad work with the birchen patterns in the Wyandottes growing up. It makes me feel more comfortable, especially since they are not just a 2 plus 2 equals 4 kind of project.
