Kim! I never get sick of seeing your birds! You should know that by now since I seem to ask to see them a lot haha
The pale gold on the saddles is normal....its the split for gold and silver shining through on ya. They are workable for sure tho! If you need help with the breeding process on it, let me know. I've had really good progress with my breeding program in just the last year even and think that this next spring I will be on track for getting pure silver boys with no leakage as I have some girls that have phenominal silver coloring to work with...definitely didn't have those in the beginning either. Its been a long interesting road so far with them.
oh....I thought maybe I should mention also to watch the wing bow as they get more color in. Watch for any red feathering...I've culled all those boys of mine out, but that's because I had good luck last year getting some silvers with just gold leakage...If you do get any with red coming in...you can work with them, but culling with a heavy hand will be your best friend with the birchens. It is strongest in the first generation cross when using BCMs but it still can pop up further out as well.

haha ok! Is that your first egg from your Marans? How many girls do you have again? I'm having a brain lapse kind of week where I can remember crap. Did you get your boys all culled down then, eh?
Probably has a lot to do with why I'm not married (not that I want to anyways) hahaha
Hmm, now that you put it that way, no wonder I still love her! Yes, I can see myself in her too come to think of it!
And to top it off, at my age, I am incapable of BS, so that makes me even more loveable!
haha too funny! If the being 'incapable of BS' makes me more loveable then I should have guys lined up around the block eh? hahah I've been told a time or two that I'm hard to handle...but I kind of like me the way I am... I'm pretty sure Charlotte thinks she's awesome!

6 girls and down 2 on the boys but I have someone that wants meat birds regularly so that is no problem, just a phone call away ... but that is what I need to talk about... Things may have changed... give me some time but we will talk. We are building 10 breeding pens out of pallets right now and I have a sinus infection so I am exhausted.
First Marans egg EVER!!! Other than the ones in the bator from Becky!

Sounds like a good way to be able to watch your boys grow out and have a place for them to go when one doesn't make the cut. I'll be here whenever you are ready. I'm just an email away
I so need to get pens built too....we'll see how it goes getting anywhere before fall...things have not gone as planned so far.
I really hope you get to feeling better...sinus infections are the worst....

Here I am agreeing entirely with both of you and waiting for Debbi's report that Charlotte made it through the night safe and sound - AND - that something Splash or Blue has actually hatched!
The little stinker parked her tuchas between the run and the garden, so it's like a little alleyway. At first, I didn't see her. No noise, no movement, but no feathers either. Then I softly called out to her, and she ever so slowly walked out of the alley, stretching and fluffing up. Didn't look the least bit rattled...the stinker!
No pips yet, but the one is still rocking when I shine the light. It's day 20, so may get some action today!!
