yay! good for you kim! wanting to grow out the chicks so you are ready to breed in the spring? To be honest....I've been tempted to do that with a couple of the breeds I have here, but I have to get my numbers down more before I even think of it.
Just hoping that I can get more than 2 birds to hatch and that they are both not cockerels...lol! I have plenty of space to grow out some chooks over winter since I only have 45 birds now. (Until the eggs under the broody hatch,
)Man talk about a difference in the amount of feed I go through. What a relief, especially since the price of feed just went up again.
yeah....you are definitely my inspiration for cutting back on the birds I hold over winter. I hatched so many this year and its been awesome, but I just don't need as many as I have at the moment. I admit I have held onto some of the nicer ones to sell at the show at the beginning of Nov. and also the weekend after that there is the exotic auction a couple of towns over I will take some more to. Then whoever is left that doesn't make the cut for the breeding pens will be going to freezer camp. I can't wait til the feed bill gets back down again.
I just realized...I still need to get some pics for Lynette of my Lavender Silver Sussex and there was another bird too...I can't remember off the top of my head, but I'll have to go back and look to see. Oh yeah.....of one of my splash birchen boys. I want to see if I can get you a pic of some of those blues and blue copper girls I have growing out....I'd love to get a fresh pair of eyes on them. I think they are beauties, but they still have a ton of growing to do.
OH....and I will be keeping my fingers crossed you get some good birchen girls from your hatch!
