fluffy butts!!!! I want fluffy butts!!! Only 14 more days here on some Orps and Sussex eggs.

What came out of the little bitty white eggs? They look almost like bobwhite eggs compared to those big Marans eggs.

those little white eggs are from my DS(9)'s Lt. Brown Leghorn Bantams and yes tiny compared to the marans

haha I was a good girl and came home with an empty truck...
The prices were not great on what people were fetching, but the ones I took from my stock brought some of the best prices, so can't complain. Its enough to buy quite a chunk of feed...especially since I am 59 birds lighter...which includes some bantam cornish...man...those things easily out eat my large fowl by a mile. They were part of an experiment last spring and decided I didn't have time, so its great to have those out of there...they easily will eat twice as much as my large fowl...they have crazy high metabolisms

I didn't stay for the hooved stock...not sure if I regret it or not yet...there were 5 pygmy does that were young and had some of the most beautiful coloring and body type, but I am pretty certain at least 2 of them were already bred...at 8 months old themselves, that just spells complications in birthing...I just couldn't handle it after losing my favorite blue agouti doe last summer. I still miss her.

For my birds, I am down under 100 now..and will soon be on my way to 75...so I'm happy. My dad's I'm still working on, but will be there really soon as well. Once processing day comes and I can get some of my extra girls to a friend for her layer flock, I'll be heading in the right direction. The only part I am playing the waiting game on is on my youngest birchens still growing out. They are doing great, but am to the point that I can't cull more til I see some size put on them.

Pretty girl! It is amazing how much they look like Marans. I have done the cross as well and I really like them.
They have a bit longer body and are not as chunky as Marans, but the coloring is very Marans like.
Mine are only 20 weeks old and not laying....can't wait to see the eggs though. My Marans are very good layers...lay
pretty much 9-10 months of the year...the Wellies do not lay well once it get hot here. They are laying now though,
when most others are taking a break. The Wels also lay extra large eggs and do not eat as much. The Marans are
pigs with feathers.

I am curious to see what attributes the crosses inherit. I want a super productive, extra large and dark egg laying
attractive hen that is feed efficient for my laying pen. Not too much to ask

My flock rooster is a Blue Wheaten Ameraucana so I'll get Olive Egger babies

agreed on the egg color and being easier for the selling eggs. Did you create those girls in just one cross or how did you end up with those? They really are striking
