You are far nicer than I would've been. Here, you get one notice of the problem. Next offense = SSS!

Vicki- he had money and saw everything in dollar signs. But he did replace all the chicks and turkeys so that was nice but it sucks to have to start over.

I hate to kill a dog, any dog... but if it came to that and with coons & fox I shoot to kill just @ their presence.

I hate to shoot a dog too. I am a dog lover, but if they are tearing up my animals, they are gone! The only one I had to shoot so far, was a Pit Bull that some idiot dumped off "in the country" where they think they can survive on their own. Stupid people!

He was shy, a fear biter and starivng, I could tell, but the morning he challenged my children walking up MY drive to meet the bus, Mr. Pit met his maker. We don't have an official "Animal Control" unit out here. Animal Control = 12 ga. in the country.

Hey, Anna, Congrats on the lap top!!!

There were Birchen eggs at Crossroads virtually indistinguishable from the Black Coppers. I took some pictures. I'll see if I can dig one up that shows it clearly.

i would love to see them and know whose they were! thats definitely my goal with my birds is to get them as nice as any other variety.

I do have some decent shots of the Birchen eggs at Crossroads. I'll get them posted later.

Thanks Barb! I gotta go to work, but I'll be excited to get home to see them! I might have to put on a bib or something to control the drooling

still no movement in my bator. This is worse then my very first hatch! so far out of nine eggs only two have hatched.but I have 6more due today.

I think my favorite thermometer is going down the tube! I took one out for lockdown and cause it was registering high anyways... well put another thermometer in there and it was registering high also.....

the one said 100.7 and the others were like 104

probably should go with 2 outta 3. I think perhaps i fried them! I kind of dislike my digital thermometers. I never know which to trust, I get different readings on everyone.

Hi!

French Black Coppers are no different than Black Coppers, some folks use the term "French" to describe them as feather legged, others use the term to identify and acknowledge their country of origin. Mostly I have noticed that folks seem to use it more to indicate to others that their birds are the feather shanked variety.... not clean shanked.
The clean legged variety Marans at one time were considered the English variety. I am uncertain if the English still breed them for clean legs...anyway, so folks started referring to the feather shanked kind "french" as way to differentiate the 2.

Some Black Copper Marans (this holds true for every color variety of Marans) regardless of where they come from will be born with clean shanks even from feather shanked parents. There are also folks that like the clean legged variety of Marans and they breed them purposely.
Nothing wrong with a clean legged Marans. If a person wants to show their clean legged birds they may receive deductions for it as the approved Standard of Perfection calls for feather shanked (and feathered outer toe) birds.

The biggest and most important thing is that they lay a nice dark eggie.......even if they have feathered shanks or if they have clean shanks.........
if'n they don't lay a nice dark brown egg atleast a #4 or better from the egg color chart.....they are NOT considered a Marans anyway.

still! That's not bad Kim! When are they set to hatch again?

They are due to hatch on the 24th. The 8 in there look to be developing nicely....wiggly little swimmers.

No....it's too hard to get them to stay put with no gravity.
