Is it just me or does the White Red Marans have wonky blade on his comb and also a sprig?
I figured out how to work my handy dandy pink highlighter thingy again to point out the possible sprig, hope you don't mind Flgarden.
Looking at flgardens original photo it is easier to spot, but the arrow gives a person the general area to look in.

I do believe that IS a sprig. With all this talk about pissing off bird owners and judges I wasn't gonna say anything LOL but yeah I did notice that too! In fact, I did see several birds at that show that probably should of been DQ's that weren't though not just Marans. There were a few Marans that were dq'd for sprigs and then some that had a sprig but weren't dq'd. I don't get it!

Looks like a big ole sprig to me too! So how did he get BV??? He should've been DQed?? Look at the comb on the BTB roo too. What is that??? Looks like a wave and/or a split in the front part of the comb? We are all becoming Comb Cops!

haha...maybe I'm weird, but I guess I don't really think people are being comb cops so much as being responsible breeders. To me..that means being able to spot obvious issues

Amen sister! A year ago the combs were the farthest thing from the top of my priorities, and alas, my downfall. Now, they are the second thing I look at, the first being type.

Gilavina~ Thanks for the compliments on #92, I do have her sister that is clean legged and just as pretty (Walt once said she had the best body on a Marans female he had seen:) ) and she is darker than #92 with just as nice of lacing, also #96, the sister, is a tad larger than #92. They are both in with Lil' Bill right now to see what will happen in the offspring. I suspect I will be fighting some clean and sparsely feathered shanks again, but LB has good feathered shanks so hoping for the middle of the road or better in the kiddos.
I have another gal that is from Bill Sr. that is in with LB right now too...her eye color is almost too light for me, but atleast it is still orange so I am going to go ahead with her and see what happens.

I think that 2 girls have started laying again...one may be #92 and the other may be one of this years Blue Copper pullets from Gnarles that has a nice comb. I got a whole 2 Marans eggs in the last 3 days..........finally.

SD Paul~

Thank you and yes her offspring have had nice lacing. I got pretty lucky with my boy Bill (very over melanized.....very) and his ultimate dark blue color and the blues that I can make when using him...his kiddos have great blue color and great lacing. I am working on the over melanization in his offspring because the females tend not to show any copper and are just too dark. However, I can get nice copper (though sometimes not enough) in his male offspring. Sometimes it is enough to make a person

I still wish these chooks were more like Mr. Potatohead! If I could swap parts on my birds, wow!

I didn't want to become a comb cop......but I certainly can't give up patrolling the beat now.

I have and have had some of the worst offenders right here in my own backyard.

haha no kidding. My family is always laughing at my dad, uncle and I when we get to talking to birds and what we would swap with what if we could. They call them our "component chickens"
