haha... you would probably laugh your head off at me when I start reading...then re reading a sentence again and again. Then I go off and do something else and come back to it later....and let it sink in, then go raid my dad's genetics library and notes he has and try to wrap my head around it. I do great with laymen's terms and such, but when you start adding in the technical side of it, it just doesn't translate well in my head...or I guess maybe I should say it doesn't come entirely naturally to be able to just rattle it off and know how all the different symbols interact with each other a such. Basically I know what I know and I know I need to learn a lot more, but that's kind of what I love about chickens, there is always more to learn. I am really really curious to see what others over there have to say about the carnation thing, because if there is the possibility of hatching out a percentage that carry two normal genes...then to me that says there is some hope...but it would be a really, really long process to go through if so.

Yes, let's just hope they are not ALL just over there! We need more fresh, CLEAN, French blood in this country, like now! Yes, I like the translations in layman's terms too. When they start using the letters and numbers and ^ thingies, I feel like I am back in algebra class...THAT did not go well!

Haha good analogy..that's about right too. She hates roos now except this little Phoenix rooster who protects her from the other roos when they are free ranging. Right now she just kinda stays near him. He is little but fierce and can kick even the big roos' butts. He kinda gets a running start and makes this trumpet type sound and attacks. Its pretty funny. Its a psychological kinda warfare but seems to work for him lol. He is in the layer pen with all the odds and ends birds.

who's over where? I'm lost...and I agree...it is like algebra...I kind of just glazed over in that class, but if I can make it practical and have it be something that I'm really interested in...I will figure it out...just in this case...the coding is coming along very slowly for me haha

I've looked at that site but it seemed pretty slow. That was awhile ago so maybe it is better now? It does seem pretty interesting. I had plenty of human genetics in college and the terminology is the same but the bird color genetics of course are different so kinda like re-learning. I have great appreciation of Veterinarians...Medical Doctors (human) only have to learn one species but vets have to learn several (mammals, reptiles, birds etc!)

Ok, I misunderstood that one! When you said over there, you meant the Classroom? I thought you were talking about the poster who is from New Zealand. Don't know what I was thinking, he's not even got Marans, but Barnies! DUH!
lol.png
I still think we seriously need some new blood though...

haha yeah I meant the classroom. I could see where it would be seen as hopeless since is does seem like the carnation is dominant. But if there is a way...even if it takes time. I wanna know. I just can't help being so stinking curious! I sometimes think of it as a disease I have hahaha! particularly if its gonna get me in trouble haha

by the way...just opened mail, got notice and forms for jury duty

how in the heck am I gonna find time for that too on top of everything else?

yes lots of note taking, wondering if you could use some food coloring dye- a different color of each hen so when they laid their egg a stripe of color would end up marking the eggs- that way you could house the rooster with 3 girls at a time

keeping a key of what color dye went with what hen number or color band.

lol.png
Guess you could, but chasing down hens and squirting food dye up their patooties for some reason, doesn't appeal to me right now! Nor would the girls care for it too much I'd imagine!

I think I'd rather expend the energy by building 3 pens...

Debbi you just crack me up!!!! I am a visual person and could just see all that going on....
