It is a heat tape... comes in sizes from 3" to 17" uses a lot less electricity and seems perfect for incubating and warming chicks. Not used for getting HOT just warm. 100* is perfect for the tape. They use it with reptiles, to incubate and keep warm. You have to hook something to it to regulate the heat, it can get up to 120* if you don't. I have seen an extension cord looking thing, but I don't think that would really work. A WHT might not really work but I think I will try before I give up that idea. I don't want to spend BIG money on a thermostat... there has to be a way to do this cheap and safe.

The Bean Farm has it if you want to go look.... that is where I ordered it from.

The wafer thermostats are like those used in the older Sportman models, most new ones now have digital I believe? Check out this link for some ideas and parts!

I know, I don't want to get ahead of myself. But this little fella hatched out brown, no feather legs, he may be from that little slut Thai rooster with the walnut comb. Poor Bonnie, I hope she stays away from him...
I am not going to advertise or say "I am a breeder" until this whole bunch grows out nice.
And if not, my friend Izzy will have one hell of a feast this spring.....
He eats all my roos.

sprigs, carnations, I even have a little roo with the back half of his comb flopped all the way down and the front half flops over the other way.... very odd looking.... they will be dinner. I just don't know where it is coming from. The RIR roo I have has a great comb all the girls look good too except one, it is wavy but no carnation or anything. I also got some eggs from the neighbor and I have a side sprig and something else in her birds too. They are just for dinner and eggs anyway. I will just pick the best birds I can from the ones I have.

for both of us

I may have a few extra wafer t-stat setups... will go look tonight.
I found a SICK deal on e-bay, all homemade brooders.
The kid moved into the house, and these were in the garage.
Extra everything, heating elements, water systems, sick deal! My pickup truck was full, along with a Brower brooder.
I have room for over 500 chicks. I won't use all the parts, will let you know later tonite or tomorrow am.
Besides, if I keep all this stuff, I am gonna get myself in a HEAP of trouble!

Thanks everyone for keeping your fingers crossed for us. Viviana(daughter) just put in the last set of EE eggs this moring. So we are good to go till the 8th for our first candling.

I am so jealous of your winobator. Good luck on your hatch. I bet you are really excited!
I placed some ads last year looking for a used nonworkinf wine cooler on CL that I could turn into an incubator. I had NO replies except for people trying to sell me working ones for more than I wanted to pay for something used that I was gonna rip apart. I gotta find one of those things... I want a big one!

Go to or call your nearest APPLIANCE REPAIR SHOP! They usually have one that are not worth fixing.

The heat tape is wonderful to use - just about any thermostat will work!
The ReptiTemp ones are really simple to use with this setup!!
