Mossy detracts from the desired color or pattern of the bird. The greenish gleen you are seeing on the feathers is normal and I believe some refer to it as a "beetle sheen," "luster," or just "sheen" it is okay and you may see it in the sickle feathers of the tail, on the wing bow or wing bars and possibly all over the back or wings of some females, especially on black birds. You may also see some color that looks dark dark purplish in some of the same areas......this is how the feathers reflect light and how we see it....it's all good and okay for them to have it.

LOVE IT!!!!!

LOVE THE BIG BUTT Gigantor!!!! That is what my Bill SR is like....it makes my day to see the tank out doing manuvers and it never ceases to amaze me how agile and graceful these big claude hoppers can be.

haha...it is one of the best parts of my day, going out and watching them! Just wish the splash boy was standing like he usually does. Those two boys together are pretty impressive. They really are graceful indeed...I love watching them when they are totally at peace with life and are talking with each other.... Guess what!? My senior cuckoo boy...(used to be my avatar pic)is named Claude Hopper.

I'm gonna shoot for taking some more pics today. I have a few things to get done around outside and updates on my record keeping, but if the weather cooperates I don't see why taking a few photos would hurt anything

Too funny about the Claude thing.

Oh and meant to tell you that I am very glad that your small gal is doing better and she looks like a sweetie pie!!!!

Good morning all

Another nice day here today! Woke up to almost 40*, getting into the upper 60s!! Then the bottom falls out, and winter will be making a comeback.

My shoulder is still sore as blazes, and did not get to the Amish yesterday. Today I have to go north to get feed, so won't make it today either. Love those boys Vicki!! Love that eggie M&F!! Hopefully, only two more days of the "het" business. Otho gives me the look on day 12 like, "really Mom, I'm over it! You can let her in here with me, I promise, it's ok!" Yeh, right Mr. Velcro!

You can just hear him saying that through his huge, brown eyes, and the cocking of his head. Believe me...I know better.

Thanks! I am so happy she made it! Its gonna be a long road with the project, but she really is just so sweet so it makes it easier to be patient!

haha I don't envy you dealing with the dogs. Used to have male Rottweilers...talk about a handful during that time! One of them we got as a 2 year old. The people we got him from didn't want him since he had broken through doors, window, and various other things trying to get to a girl in heat. So I feel your pain!

I hope your shoulder gets better soon!

Wanted to take a moment and THANK everyone who emailed me about the test eggs that I offered up. I appreciate all of you and your willingness to take this on even with all of the faults that they may or may not have. THANK YOU!

Here are the eggs that will be going out to DMRippy if she will have them. These are the first eggs given to me from the slackers in a couple months...I can't believe they held out like that!

Wish the Marans girls would school the Barnevelder girls to get back to laying....one egg on Christmas from them and then nothing. Losers just wanted to let me know they can lay an egg when they want to and not just because I told them too. 1 egg on Christmas

, none for the 3 months prior and not one since. Man!

With my bcms if they hatch out mossy they pretty much stay that way so i dont use them. I only have one girl bcm with too much red in her chest but not really mossy. I am using her for testing purposes. The only ones that have shown mossy is my blk birchen girl grr. She is a mossy bossy thang!! As for thr beetle green sheen, alot of my birds have it in thier tails. It is quite pretty on some if the blue coppers it can kinda turn some of thier tail feathers a dark teal color. My all black male is really beetle green on much of his feathering especially in the sun.

Thanks! Feels a bit better after I got out with the chooks, hauling feed. Nice day here, I can't believe this weather!! You know the dog is not being truthful with me when he tried to breed a cat, AND a rooster this morning!! Wish you could've seen the looks on their faces!!

The chicklets spent their first night in the coop with their crate door opened. No trauma, no one came running to me screaming, feathers all intact, so I guess they are now official members of the flock!

Took the camera out with me, and wouldn't ya know it, I forgot my batteries were in the flashlight for candling!!

Will try again later. Vicki, that one blue copper cockerel chick I told you about, is looking good, or should I say, better. He had what looked like what was going to be a carnation comb too, but when I checked him this morning, it looks fine?? I'm thinking the last point towards the end was folded over, but has since straightened out! His brother though, is still very much a funky comb. Too bad too, cause he's a very nice looking BCM, albeit with no copper yet. The Splash girl, Dopey (and she still is!), is looking good too. Won't be breeding her blue sister due to the funky toes on her.

Day 19 here for the 4 Silkie eggs, should start to see something by this evening. All my Silkies that I hatched before were rocking on 19, and hatched on day 20 and 21. We'll see...
