Good morning all

Supposed to get into the 60s here today, windy, but sunny!! We have been truly blessed with an unusually warm winter this year, I hope it keeps going!

Kathy ~ Ok lady, how did you do that???

Slick ~ Thanks for that tip, I will try that. I just upload from my picture album on my computer, not from photobucket.

Barb ~ When I upload the pics, there are no different sizes, just the one size shows in the album. There are no options for a thumbnail pic or a large pic, just these cropped medium sized pics show?? I right click on them, then paste it to my posts, and they come out looking like they did a page or so back.

Soooooooooo OFF TOPIC here for a second........Does anyone here raise meaties? Can you give me any advise on raising them and do I seriously have to do the strict light regime and feed regime? PM answers would be great as to not clutter up the thread and not to mention my living on the edge and going off topic

....or direct me to a really good source for info on them. Thanks!

Raising Marans to eat is not financially feasible...but they sure do taste great.

sent you a PM, let me know if you have questions.

I hear you on raising Marans up to eat, it does take a bit longer

2 of my cuckoo pullet's combs are getting red- hopefully they will start laying soon! I like raising Marans chicks in with other breed chicks- it seems to keep everyone mellow, we have 2 lt brown leghorn bantam chicks that just love to snuggle and can be picked up so easy!

I run my Black Coppers, Blue Coppers and Splash Coppers together (when I have Black Copper hens worthy of running with the rest) anyway, the best Black Copper male I have ever produced (and in hind sight...I SHOULD HAVE NEVER CULLED HIM
he.gif
) was created from a Blue Copper to Blue Copper breeding. The blackest black a person has ever seen on a Marans, nice rich copper (though lacking in wing bow) and a tank. I am a firm believer in creating Black Coppers from the Blues...however there are some folks that would disagree and say not to mix the Black with the Blues and if you do....only breed blues from the blacks for the breeding pen. Not me.....I don't roll this way...there's a reason the 3 colors can run together and live in harmony far be it from me to stand in the way of what nature already had worked out.

I like that this would increase the genetic base. Very easy to become too limited. THanks , PInk.

Good morning, Debbi!

Try left clicking on the picture to make it full size on your machine before you right click to copy it.

The first one is from right clicking on and copying the thumbnail (list) version ....

This beautiful and truly fuzzy young Silkie butt is from left clicking on the thumbnail version first in my album and then right clicking on and copying the full size picture that results.

Morning Everyone!

Thank you Donna! #2 is out now and I believe this one is a Black Copper, it hatched from one of the eggs labeled just "blue."....1st egg from one of these 2 girls I have been able to get to hatch...all eggs in the last 2 hatches from these 2 particular girls did not hatch. Keeping fingers crossed for the other one to hatch....will be nice to see what these 2 girls and Lil' Bill produce. :)

Debbi~ Nifty taught Kathy that neato trick and I have been trying to figure it out since I saw one of her other posts...I really like this function and ability. Nifty told me that this new forum platform can do lots and lots and is very powerful. I'm really kinda liking it now that I have monkeyied around with it some. Still don't care for some of the glitches like having to start posts over about 20 times before they post but hey, I'll learn to get over that one as eventually it will get fixed up. :)

Ok, I had another reply to this one, but it totally disappeared??? The bad news in this pic, are the again, TWO funky combs!

Soup on the left has a small, but true Carnation. Jagger the Blue boy has a real nice side sprig towards the back of the comb. He also has dark eyes, that may or may not lighten with age, but with his comb, it's kind of a moot point.

I had to re-look at that pic too! That's an "Ella" butt! Some times with my Silkies, it's hard to tell which end I'm looking at too!
