Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

we moved 7 of the strongest chicks to the brooder already. The incubator was getting so crowded and they were laying all over the zipping and hatching eggs. There are 6 newer wetter ones in the bator still with about 10 eggs to go still. Some of them are pipped...so we'll seeeeee!
For now, here are a couple pics- I love looking at other's pics so I hope you like looking at mine. I will take better ones when things calm down a wee bit here. Right now, in the brooder is 3 Splash Marans, and 3 Black Copper Marans, and 1 Olive Egger baby.

They're lookin super cute! In that second pic, they look all tuckered out....

yes, aren't baby chicks so cute when they just plop down and fall asleep? They were tuckered out from all the confusion, getting little leg bands on and moving into a big brooder box, meeting a big Teddy Bear, and getting introduced to a big waterer. So much to do when you dry off and move out of the bator! Can't wait for them all to hatch and move into there together...

well...the crazy beautiful weather continues...and I'm 7 birds lighter tonight and added another 2 birds to my cull list! Not a bad days work considering I worked all day before hand

I sold 3 pullets today and made great progress on getting the young birds outside. They will be in my chicken tractor 1/2 in and 1/2 out of the tractor barn. That way they have plenty of light and shelter from the rain. I am going to be so happy to get those babies outside... they will be too

haha awesome! I'm excited for you to get thinned down! And bye bye to goaties too! You're gonna have a busy day that day!

I'm starting to get impatient for my doe, Ina, to give me babies to spoil! haha She's not due til may sometime, but I'm getting anxious!

I didn't update on this hatch.... today is day 20 and I had about 15 babies out, many more pipped.... tomorrow is day 21 so it should be a good hatch. Maybe keeping them in the bator till day 19 was not a bad thing.... I have 2 babies with bad legs. One keeps it straight but is getting around OK (advise is welcome) The other baby is not standing and not drinking or opening its eyes....

I hate that part of hatching.... I don't think any marans are out but maybe tomorrow.

I sold some eggs to someone and she is on day 24 and they are still hatching.... glad she didn't give up. All 6 of the Marans eggs she got have hatched... I never have a hatch like that

She did dry incubation and then cranked up the humidity for lockdown. She thinks that helped.... me too. I have 20+ Marans I could set.... I think I will too

Kinda glad I put the unhatched eggs back in the bator maybe there is still hope
