Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I've used the Ivomec products for years, on cattle, sheep, goats, dogs, pigs, and now poultry. I just stay with what works, and is fairly easy to administer. One product I will NEVER use again is Valbazen (sp?). Had some severe deformities when used on goats, and have never used it since.

I hear ya on sticking with what works! I can't help but get curious about what works for others or why people prefer one over another kind of deal.

Lynette, I use the Wazine too for the first worming. Supposedly, switching back and forth from the Wazine to the Ivomectin, will prevent the worms getting used to the protocal.

I guess I have a broody again? Olivia went back to the eggs today, and is with them tonight. I had moved them into a dog crate in case she wanted to sit, and sure enough, she did. Locked her in tonight, as she is still in the same location, but at least now she is within the locked crate. She didn't even flinch when I went to shut her in. She has food and water in the little food cups in there with her. I guess we'll just go with the flow and see what happens?

I thought maybe Olivia might give it another go round. I hope she sticks with it for you!

Vicki, I think a lot of it is what is readily available in your area, and folks get used to using it. I have used Levamisol before, but it's been many years ago. Can't remember if I liked it or not. Back then, t would've been on sheep and goats. Did you get some rain today?? We got a nice heavy downpour here today, sans the ugly stuff! I can see mowing the grass again on Easter!

and...my two young pullets laid their first eggs today!! Color nothing to write home about, but they should darken up as they go...I hope. I know for sure it was both of them, as they were the only two girls in the run today!

I order my stuff out of a mom and pop poultry supply place in Kansas. Its Levamisol/Prohibit mix. I've tried quite a few, and its pretty easy for me to do with my crazy work schedule....I have a feeling its gonna get more hectic as well since my boss just announced she's due in August...yikes!

The boy is still with me this morning. I put him on the roost last night and he's on the ground now, but still not perky at all. He is holding his tail a little higher if that means anything. Didn't go inside to feel his comb.

Debbi, how do you administer the Ivomec? I have a bottle of that that I could get into his system faster than the other stuff (can't remember the name).

Slick, I use Eprinex and apply it to the skin on the back of the neck/shoulder area. I give 3 drops to the hens, and 4 drops to the larger roos. I suck some of the Eprinex out of the main bottle and put it in a small glass bottle with an eye dropper. Eprinex is a pour on wormer. I have used in the past with other animals, the injectable and given it orally. Personally, I do not think I would give this to him if he is already so run down, it is hard on their systems. Have you been giving him any vitamins/electrolytes? Maybe coax him to eat something like yogurt or hard boiled eggs to try to build him back up a bit before worming him? JMO, good luck with him...
