Maybe she sent you everything she had so you could start some trends over there and make a mint $$$$$$ How much was the Black Copper Roo again... the ones I practically give away???????
Lol funny lady! The 4 month old BCM? I hatched him from eggs I got here on BYC.

*hushed tone* I love birchens... Lol!
I just decided to stick to black and blue coppers first cuz I was trying to be good.
Yes I want to know how to improve them!
I got them from Stephanie at chestnut ridge farms. She told me they were project birds and sent them in my box of BCM. I love the idea of projects cuz there is no poultry showing going on over here so the project is the reward itself for me.
But I see gold in the neck. Isn't it supposed to be silver? Is it not homozygous for silver yet? That's why some yellow is showing?
Tell me everything! Lol

me thinks that you've been handed what you were supposed to have

The boys will carry two sets of genes and looks like your boys have one silver and one gold. Its also possible that the silver on your boys is being sun stained if they are in outside runs with access to light. The birchen color can get yellowed pretty easily if they are in it everyday (if you have a question about it later on when they've grown a bit, take some tide with bleach alternative and give them a bath, focusing on the coloring and see how they look. My white birds get sunstained and have to wash them out and it works great). If that girls is a nice silver, then you have a project that is workable. You'll get a percentage in the offspring that will come out silver in boys and girls...you'll want to retain only those at the start. As they grow and show you more color and pattern, we can go from there. If you have girls that come in with that yellow or gold from the get go. You will want to move them to a layer pen as they won't work for breeding.

While we're on the topic of birchen - I was admiring my Lavender Orp roo today.

In looking at him, it appears he might actually be silver birchen lavender....if that is the right terminology-??-
His hackles and saddle are definitely lighter than his chest and wings.

He's very pretty, whatever he is!

As for topic appropriate:

It's time to start moving the BCM I hatched, along with Vicki and Donna, to their next pen (and cull in the process!!)
and my BBS Wheaten Americauna are growing in their beards

So cute!!

If it EVER stops raining, they'll be moving this weekend - yay!!

MTA: sorry if I'm not making a whole lot of sense - had surgery on my kidney and on some interesting meds....bear with me, ladies!

My goal right now is SELL SELL SELL.... I have someone that wants my d'Uccles

and several people want chicks since I cut my prices. If they don't sell no big deal. I will wait and cull the roos and sell the pullets for more money

Dang I think my blue cuckoo is a boy. But I have "blue copper" girls. When they get older I should be able to tell if they are actually silver not gold? Oh I can't wait for them to grow up and show me what they are made of. I am excited at the idea of having some silver genes to work with. So far I think I have all gold. My marans and my ameraucanas.
Oh my gosh oh my gosh.. I need to go bury my nose in my Genetics of Chicken Colours book... be back later! Chicken genetics are so fun!

I will GIVE my baby roos away.  If I grow them up they will cost you some money, cuz I saw something in them I wanted to watch ;)   You are special too :hugs   Yes you will get sex links.  Ok you got blue barred and reg barred with your Blue Copper roo you will get 25% each blue and black pullets and 25% each blue barred roos and Black Barred roos from the reg rocks.  The blue rocks.... You will get, someone tell me the percents I can't remember :he , I think you will get colors wise 50% blue, 25% black and 25% splash.... of those the barred ones will be roos about 50% of the whole hatch.

Did you find anything out about chickens?  or are you just going to live with the don't ask don't tell thing?

I'm goin with that(don't ask / tell ) unless the developer comes to me & days something different.
