Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I might have to hit you up for a few of them!! I would love to see some blue and eventually, olive eggs here!! I've about resigned myself to thinking that all of my BCMs and Blues are just going to be egg layers...sigh.
you mean the ameraucanas? That could be arranged...he gave me 36 eggs and there is no way that I need that many chicks!

sounds like a road trip might be in my future? haha
Oh crap, I forgot you were talking chicks! That would be one heck of a drive to deliver chicks! I may have to wait for some eggs? Looks like a second pip here, another Silkie of mine.

Hey Debbie Here are my lav silkie chicks.

My paints didn't come out with any spots ( HMMM ) They have a yellowish cast to them as well. I know some come out champagne colored and can be solid whitish or black but these seem awfully yellowish. I am gonna have to pm the gal I got them from to see what she thinks.. I don't feel like they are really paints but then again I don't know that much about them. I might have to get some more from someone who is hatching out paints with lots of spots

Cutie pies all!! I am very curious what the one in the back of the second pic is?? I wouldn't worry about the "no spots", they come in later like a Dalmation. The yellow chicks should feather out white, so let's hope spots show up too!

Debbie you will absolutely love Ameraucanas. They are the friendliest chickens I have, even the roos. They think they are lap chickens, shoulder chickens, hold me- pet me -love me chickens LOL! One of my girls gets seriously ****** if another chicken comes around when I'm holding her. She will peck them and act real jealous.
The babies are soooo cute they look like little owls.

The one is the back is the smallest and has a really vaulted skull. It really sticks up. I'm afraid he will get pecked or something lol. I had one a blue with a really vaulted skull and it had a head injury and acted like it was gonna die for about 3 days, then slowly recovered. That is my blue roo that I have. I also had one lavender one before that died of a head injury...so sad. She had a really vaulted skull as well.

Awwww! Nice to know. My Marans are just now starting to be more like pets, rather than aloof chickens. When I go outside now, they all clamor at my feet. If I sit down on the deck while they are still out, I have company. Since I've been in the garden, which I lock them out of, they all line up and whine to come in with me!

I can see right now I'm going to have to sell some of these to make room for more. What a sickness this has become!
