Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

haha that's some pretty funny imagery there! The first doe I ever had was named Bucket and that crazy pygmy would pop out 4 consistently. I always ended up with the runt to take care of and would try to slip them in my back pack to sneak them to school cause I couldn't bear to be away from them. hahaha And I loved every minute of it!
That must've been a sight! Like Mary had a little lamb...

Good old Jordy raised all three of the kids by herself. She was one good milk goat. She was like having half a Jersey cow!

Oh you guys are making me want to get some milk goats soooo bad lol !!!!

Hey Debbie, I have two silkie broody wanna-b-baby-mommas now lol. The silkies are spoiled and have a regular coop and then a 3x3 ft little playhouse coop thingy in their run. Well those 2 silly girls want to go broody in the day play-coop and try to sneak and stay in there every night. I put them back into their main coop cuz the day play one isn't secure so they are both in a snit.

Cockerels and pullets may develop faults after the first year.

Walt

I don't even think my wheaten males actually quit growing until about 18+ months. So this makes sense. I have a BCM male that is almost one and definitely still growing, he is gonna be huge, big as our black orps.

Haha! Maybe you could fence it off for them? Mine have taken over the whole nest box area in their perspective coops. All others, have to bed down on the far end of the small coop. I left a dog crate in the one run in case the younger ones were not going to be allowed into the larger coop. Glad I did!

Anyone ever have the problem of a newly hatched chick that its legs stick straight out in front of itself? Lady I sold eggs to is having that problem with one.

Nope. What kind of surface does she have them on? Then there is the possibility of a deformity, as in bad hips.

Vicki did you get my PM on the SLW?
Crap!! Yes I did. I wrote you the other day, but my internet kicked me off and I told myself not to forget to re-write you the email since I lost it, but guess what? I forgot

I'll see if I can slip back in here in a bit to write you. I've been doing chores and rearranging some birds and finding some baby chicks! Three coronation sussex from the trio I own with my uncle. Mr Giant Roo must have deemed one of the babies an enemy tho, cause he beat him up pretty bad, so I'll be doing some chicky E.R. I think he'll be fine if the others leave him alone and go into a brooder by themselves. They are biiiig chickies!

I've got my next batch of chicks that have to go outside today tho, they are escaping their big round pen brooder and have to get them outside today before I have to get ready for work.

She has it on newspaper. She said that it wasn't able to get out of the shell on its own so she helped it. Told me that it sat up last night on its own, so I'm taking it that means its butt.
