haha too funny. Soon enough you'll get there! I'm still so happy you got that many to hatch from the blacks! I'm a bundle of nerves waiting.....got the hatcher warming up and ready to go...so no long now...

Lately I see some still saying that the BC males can have 10% copper in the breast area. Where is this info. coming from ? We should not be encouraging new Marans people to breed these Copper copper breast males as they will produce more junk than anyone would want. Stay away from these copper co;ored breast and you will have less headaches to worry about.

Also if you are breeding to the APA SOP the only breed group that has a say is the Sponsoring club. None of the other clubs breed standards mean anything.

I had always thought they were supposed to have solid black breast, and that is what I am trying to achieve. My founding male had solid black and then developed some copper on the breast after he was older and all the others had long since been butchered. Sorry to be ignorant, but which club is the sponsoring club, I am confused on the different clubs. I joined the APA after the BCM was put into the Standard, I assume they had sent members a copy, no? Anyway, the only place I could find a standard was on the Marans Chicken Club USA site (marans.org), the other club, Marans of America, did not have the standard on their site. The Standard on the Marans.org site states for the black copper: "Breast: Solid black or with a few copper spots. Not laced."

Is anyone else having trouble with the "reply" and posting pics?? The reply button only brings up the plain version, no font colors, B I or U or the smilies. I also can't paste a picture to this reply format. What's up? This started yesterday..

For me, this problem comes and goes. Started a month or so ago. Inconsistently a problem.

I couldn't find any that were the quality that I wanted and Vicki won't share yet.

haha...I've been hearing I'm hoarding my birdies more than once on here....I'm not meaning to...just want good quality and have them all test mated and producing more consistent results that I feel comfortable with. I don't want to send Marans out into the world that won't give someone else really good prospects. Especially in the birchens. They are in so much need of improvement overall...especially with all the birds I've seen as examples that I'm going to be doubly careful. Just my perfectionist nature I guess....goodness knows I'm not making any money going this way at the moment hahha

Q to all: Interesting that it is the HEN that is allowed the copper in the neck front. DOes this mean a rooster with a completely black front, not sure the is correct term. THe area on the front of the neck where the hackles have parted; all black is preferred??

Don~
While we are on the topic of the breast.......what's your take on the differences in the markings on the breast that are indicitive of Wheaten influences and those that are suppose to be copper markings?
In my opinion, the 2 markings and how they look are completely different.

Still searching for photos of the breast with copper markings to compare to the breast with stippling and shafting.
