Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Just trying out the new photo function. Seems to work ok for me. I use a newer macbookpro and wireless internet and have not ever had a problem with the new BYC platform except for not getting my notifications awhile back. Maybe the issues that some have is due to internet speeds? I always feel so bad when someone is having problems posting pics cuz I KNOW how frustrating that is. Makes ya wanna break something. heehee

My husband and son last weekend. This is a 40 pound Ono. I am not sure what they call this fish in the real world. But in Hawaii it is a 'Ono' pronounced Oh-No. lol!!

edit to add: and in the backyard we have marans marans marans!

This weekend here is a thing called Camp Creek Threshers. I loved going growing up, but its going to be so stinking hot this weekend that I don't know if I can handle it. 104 and 105 tomorrow and sunday, not including the heat index. I heard on the news last night the heat index over the weekend is gonna be somewhere between 110-125, depending on the time of day. Besides work, I'll be staying close to home and keeping an eye on the animals and watering like crazy. I'm gonna freeze up some waterbottles to stick in the water dishes I think and mix up some homemade electrolytes to have on hand in case of stress. This has to end at some point.

Oh my goodness

I couldn't do it...the humidity kills me...it's like walking through water

Both your functions sound fun, Vicki and Kim!
Glad you got the weather, Kim

Good luck with the animals in the heat, Vicki...I just can't imagine...

I can see that's why they call it an Ono! Although, that may not be my first words to come spewing out if I hooked one!

Are they good eating? They kind of look like a Blue Fish we would catch back east. They sure tasted good, and put up one heck of a battle!!

Wow Vicki that heat sound bad! I hope you and the birds make it OK.

It has cooled her and is raining almost daily. Last night we got a lot of rain. I had an email from the guy I gave some little roos and pullets too and he said 26 drown in the rain. He said there was 6 inches of water in the pen

I had another guy call me last night and ask if I had anymore pullets for him. He got them a couple of days ago and they were only 2-3 and having had them for all of 1 day he let them out, one ran into the woods and his dog got another so now he only had the 1. WTH?

BTW I am getting a started pair of BLRW and a SLW roo from the Foleys as soon as I can arrange a day to drive 4hrs to pick them up

Wow...I can't imagine having them drown like that - why wouldn't they roost?
Poor things...

Oo - we want pics of those BLRW!!

Hi all! I confess to having been lurking on this thread for quite some time now. I tried to read all of the pages to date, however, there is so much information that it is a bit difficult. Wanted to thank all of you for being so informative. I am learning a lot and feeding my chicken addiction. Thanks again! This is a great thread.

Oh they are delicious! Firm white meat. We eat it raw a lot. In Hawaii when something tastes really good they say "this is so ono". It is their hawaiian word for "really really yummy". lol Yes these fish put of a great fight. My husband loves to fish but we only catch for ourselves and friends so one fish like this is a good day fishing. Leave the rest for someone else.

Gees, who lets 3 day old chicks out free?? It amazes me how moronic some people can be. A lady that came here to get some chicks was told to make sure she immediately and physically showed the chicks the water and food when she got them home. I told her to hold them and dunk their beaks in the water a few times so they know what it is. She asked, "don't you feed them water??" Well of course I do. "Then why do I need to show them the water?" I had to chuckle and told her, "well, say you were in a strange town, and went to a strange restaraunt, and found you needed the bathroom quickly. Would you go looking for it yourself chancing an accident, or would you ask someone where the restroom was??" Ahhhhhh, ok now I get it...sheesh.

Poor analogy I know, but she was a blonde, so it evidently clicked? No offense to the blondes out here!!
