Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Cool! It worked!

This is the other male and the only photo of the monster I could get. He has looked like a roo since a few days after hatch. Look at that comb....it has been that red since he was very young.

Here comes the question that everyone probably always asks.......

Next year I'd like to hatch out some Black Copper Marans to add another line to my flock. I'd like to add for the darkest egg color and quality that I can afford, but that would also be available next year by fall at the latest. Any suggestions of trusted, quality breeders that I could look into and get unto a waiting list?

Thank you!
SIMZ, if you pop over to the BCM thread, there is a discussion that will probably make you understand why you haven't been answered yet https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/444381/black-copper-marans-discussion-thread/4770
We aren't ignoring you, it's just that the same questions are asked over and over again. You need to sit with us and read thru all these pages of posts, and see what we all have been through.
I can't speak for everyone, but we all aren't going to give you a magic name to buy chicks from, and POOF! you will have Marans.
You will have to suffer like we all did to get something good.
Sorry to sound so harsh.
All the breeders you are asking for are in here, and you have to find them.

Thanks Vicki! I am very excited to see them mature fully. They are changing so fast. One day they seem as though they do not have much by the way of silver and then the next, like overnight, BOOM, there is more silver.
Whatcha think of my Black Copper boy? See his street sweepers? Don would be proud of his shank and outer toe feathering. :D

Actually, that helps me a lot! Sometimes this forum is like a giant 100 square mile forest and any hint on where to start helps! :)

Yeah, the silver does come in out of nowhere. Its one of the things I love about the birchens. I need to get in contact with Rod now that its cooling off to see how his birds are laying to see if I can get my replacer eggs. I'm so busy that I need to make sure I plan it right tho.

I hope the black copper boy gets some color going soon. I'm not the best to gauge whether he will or not mostly because the birds here start getting color really young. Otherwise I think he's a pretty one from what I can see.
