Do it Donna! I was one egg short from being able to compete with her. I was so bummed I couldn't get another egg. I suppose its part of the problem of molting and just going with the territory.

I'm hoping we'll have another egg show this next year. I can't even believe how many people were really interested in the Marans! I'm praying for some competition to start springing up locally for both eggs and birds!

Count me OUT.... I have gotten TWO eggs from the marans flock in the last week!
I remember complaining about the girls not laying last year about this time too!
Yes those Marans are not really the best layers.... but I love them anyway. I do have a 4yr old Silver Hamberg that lays great, when not molting. I hatched maransx from her and I have been told by the folks who I gave them too they lay as well as her! Also the chicks appear to be sexlinked, hens black with gold and the roos black with silver.

Quote: None of my birds are laying. I'm lucky to get one to eat. They all molted back in September.
Donna I set your eggs last night

can't wait to see the little Blue Cooper Babies. I'm so excited, this is the first time I'm hoping for a boy, since my last BCM had white tail feathers.

Mine are laying like crazy, they are just smaller pullet eggs. I got 7 eggs from one pen of Marans the other day and 5 yesterday. Mine I are GOOD layers when they are laying. I get an egg a day out of most of them when they start laying. But that only lasts for a few weeks and then they stop for a month or so and start back up. They don't lay like my other birds. They lay in a cycle of some sort. Maybe it is the European heritage.... I think they take lots of vacations.... RIGHT?

Dag, what are you giving them, super duper egg laying food. I can't buy an egg from my girls, any of them, I have Olive Eggers eggs I need to collect, but everyone is striking, even though I'm bribing them with goodies, like meal worms and and such. I mixed hot pepper in their feed. Long shot, but it worked in the past. ( I'm also cheating and resorted to adding some extra light hour in the morning and an hour past dusk, Just so I can fill these orders.
