Hi everyone! New to the thread and BCM's! I just wanted to show Ruth that she has a couple of grandchickies.

This little precious was hatched out of some eggs that I bought from her. There is one other that hatched out of the Bonus Egg that she sent.

There would have been more from the hatch, but I lost a couple due to pips at the wrong end of the egg and they did this overnight while I was sleeping. It was too late to save them next morning...SO....here's one of your grandchickies Ruth!! Yes, there are a few teeny tiny fluffs on it's legs, just hard to see. The bonus egg chick had downright hairy legs!

I bought three more chicks from a local marans breeder and now I have a total of 5 healthy little BCM's. I have to say that these are the sweetest and most laid back birds that I have ever hatched.

I also have 5 beautiful cuckoo marans. 2 cockerals and 3 pullets that are 17 weeks old tomorrow. I'll try to get some birthday pics of them up tomorrow because I'd like to know what the marans peoples think about them.

Hi Henry!
Good to see you again...haven't seen you in a while.

The marans you have pictured above are nice, but I just wanted to point out how straight up and down the tail is. In the APA standards, this is a fault as you want a rounded, loose "U" shape from the head around top of body to tail. Here is an example:

This is a pic of one of the birds sent to APA to create standards. I just wanted to put that out there so people that are serious about a BCM Marans breeding program and possible showing, know one of the standards to breed for.

Thanks for posting pics of your girls! How are your blues doing??
I started a Blue Birchen project and just hatched her first 2 eggs. 1 was a blue birchen and the other a pure white Marans!! AND, her eggs are a nice dark red russet, unlike my other girls which are more on the "purplish" side.

How's school??!

Everything is good thanks for the pointers I think it makes it look more staight up and down because thats not normally how she stands she heard a dog bark in the distance and was looking. The blue pullets were taken by the fox which was very sad I may possibly get another one from Kathleen but not sure yet. Those are beautiful birds 4kidz how many Marans do you have now? I want some more even though these girls arn't laying at all yet

Henry,

Your pics are looking a lot better, too

That picture is one of B. Davis' hens...as are the ones in the background. I actually only have a couple bcm hens and roos, now. I am working on blue, blue birchen, solid black, wheaten & blue wheaten, now. I will try and get some new pics up of my birds, soon. The wheatens are ALL broody (5 hens) right now, and they have been for over a month! No babies, cuz I pulled all their eggs as they went broody cuz I had orders to fill!! It never fails.

Anyway...good to see you again as I haven't seen you in a while. I don't venture out on the threads much anymore with all these darned chickens to tend to, now

OK here is my big boy Tank - he has sure changed over the last few months. What do you guys think? His comb is not good - too many points. He also has a semi - jerky personality. But there is no copper whatsoever on his chest and decent feathers on his legs. He also came from a very dark egg that I am currently trying to introduce the gene for into my cuckoos.
I just wish I had some hens for him.

BTW - his tail used to be more full but he is low-man on the totem pull and gets tail feathers pulled by my alpha roo almost everyday.

He's a nice big boy. My #2 and #3 roos tails look a little beat-up like that and it is hard to tell what the tail set looks like when they are so torn up-the saddle feathers too. I think they really need to have their own little flocks by themselves. That's when you can really show them off to their best advantage in terms of condition. I think he is very nice-the only thing that is hard to judge is the tail set and the angle of his back because of the way he is standing there in that pic.

My alpha rooster has a lovely temperament and so does #2 in the pecking order. But #3 is such a jerk. I think it is because I handled him the least of the 3, but also because he is low man on the totem pole. I want to separate everyone out and am going to build another coop in another month or so. A rooster needs to have his own little kingdom.

Finally! Snapped a couple pics today cuz I'm selling some GORGE eggs from these lovelies. The last picture is Pappa Smurf and Blue Belle's 1st 2 eggs laid and set!

And here's the recent batch of their eggs!

I am totally in LOVE w/ the Blue Birchen Marans, now
