Marans Thread for Posting Pics of Your Eggs, Chicks and Chickens

Well, I don't think I'll ever be able to read all 335 pages already written, but I wanted to introduce myself. I'm Sherry, and I live in Arkansas. Some of you may recognise me from some of the yahoo groups.

I have 4 Cuckoo Marans hens, only one of which is feather legged.

I also have a pair of pretty feather legged Blue Wheaten Marans. The hen is laying between a #5 and #6....that's going by the French chart, not some of the lighter charts I've seen. I've only hatched a few chicks so far because my cockerel is still a little young, but I hope by next Spring he'll be all ready to go!

I'm very new to the breed, but I just love the stately look and dark eggs, and can't wait to have a large flock of these beautiful birds. There are a few pics on my BYC page of some of my birds.

Thank you both! I'm just getting started, but am happy with what I have so far, although I'd love to find a few more hens.

I hope to eventually get other colors too, like the BC, and hopefully some Black Tailed Buffs one day. I'm tempted by the Birchen too, but only have so much room. I try to give everyone a lot of space, so I may have to settle for just two varieties, ...maybe three if I get the saw and hammer out again, lol! I already have several types of Ameraucanas and several other breeds, and I really don't want to have to give one of them up.

The first one I built took me so darn long to build.

But it's cozy and dry in the winter and cool in the summer

So, it was worth the work.

They aren't fuzzy butts for very long are they
