But I have mentioned this EE in posts several times because she was a feed store chick I got last year and she was in a clutch of about 10 or so birds that were identical. I am mad at myself for not bringing home one or two more of her clutch-mates. The shipment was from Ideal, the big commercial hatchery, so the chances of me ordering from them and getting more of the exact same blood stock are zilch. But she is a little gem. She lays an identical egg with lovely color and a really nice shell just about every day.

That reminds me. I need to give her some treats today. This is Sunday! This is the day when I have some time to dole out treats!

Drom, have you thought of putting a white egg laying cock bird on her? The first generation females might lay paler eggs but I'd expect a male offspring, put back to her, would give some pullets laying eggs just as vivid in colour.

I was never a shutter-bug before I bought these birds. That digital camera of mine was sitting in the box collecting dust for over a year.

So what about these Marans eggs pictures anyway. I can't take a good egg picture indoors.

I have to take all of them outside in daylight to capture the color accurately. It's way too dark indoors and they look completely too dark but when I try to use flash, they reflect so much light back it completely washes the color out. I don't know whether it's the gloss from the coating on the outside of the egg that causes that or what. I think maybe with a really good camera you can adjust that (?)

I did actually get some good pictures at the egg show in Fresno with a flash. That is the only time I have been able to use it and get decent results.

No, as there is only one locus giving blue egg colour & it is autosomal either or both parents can have as much influence.​

Send me eggs! I will split the pullets with you, and you can have as many or few of roos as you want. I am not the world's greatest at it, but I will get you some more pullets, I promise. I might also get me a "real" incubator soon. No promises on that though...

Hey Marans Peeps!

These are from Cuckoos from a local, organic farm/vineyard. I'm hatching them on split-the-proceeds sort of deal.

Does anybody know where I can get one of those Marans eggs color cards, preferably without any drama?

I wonder if there's another color card for Aumericanas...Americanas...Americaunas...how do you spell it?

drama free cards im unsure of, I was going to reccomend on the yahoo club because that's the only place I know off off the top of my head, tho i dunno if theres still drama or not on that sub?
