March 2017! Hatch with us!

I signed up for this hatch along but want to confirm that today is the day to set eggs. I can't seem to find any info on the hatch along. Do I need to provide photos or anything else?

This is the March hatchalong, so usually it's for eggs hatching in March. There will be an April hatchalong soon for eggs hatching in April. Or you can join the Easter Hatchalong where you try to get the eggs to hatch on Easter. I forget what day you set the eggs on, but it's on the hatchalong page. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/1151482/the-8th-annual-byc-easter-hatch-a-long

So I guess my broody Mocha choc orp gave up on the last 5 eggs, 6 had hatched. Where she had contributions to the nest for a few days, the stagger was a mess. So I brought the final 5 inside. They were fairly cool. One was sloshy, looks like it never developed. Guess I never saw it in my random checks. Another was clearly a quitter. A couple had internally pipped, so I put the final 3 in the bator.

Decided to open one that looked really tight and not moving. Assumed it was dead. Opened the air cell and it kicked me, but it was stuck. Vaseline on the membrane, a little warmth, and she popped out! Opened another last night and it still has some active blood vessels, moistened up again this morning, and it's still hanging out in the shell, so we'll see. I just hope I can give these chicks back to Mocha to raise! But I couldn't throw them away.
You saved chicks! Yay!

Well done.

Welcome to (yet) another installment of orrpeople's post office report :caf
Called in at about 7:30, got the supervisor who immediately recognized my name and made a small joke about "Let me go see where they've misplaced this one!" She came back pretty quickly with, "I've got it right here, come on down and get it." (Darn, I'm thinking, I will not get to begin my career as a protester today...;) )
So, the postal worker handed me my box and then began the story of a terrible shipment of chicks that were sent priority and arrived 3/4 DOA. She quickly pulled out the remaining live ones and gave them water and even found a blanket for them to snuggle down into while she waited for the customer to arrive. I could tell it had been very distressing for her, so we talked for a long while about the humane treatment of animals. She kind of restored my faith in our little PO workers. (Also of note, the word 'embryo' on a box makes her a lot more cautious than 'glass' or 'liquid'.)

So how did they look once you got it opened up?

I shipped a couple of 8-month old cockerels once last year. The morning that I dropped them at the post office, there was an elementary school class of kids in the station, learning about the postal service. They let me in, and ended up using my shipment as an educational experience for the kids. Of course, you know that 8-month old cockerels in a box are going to crow. And crow. And crow... and answer each other... over and over and over! The kids laughed every time! Even the teachers got a kick out of it.

So although we do complain about the post office often, they do sometimes have their good days.

I have to say my post office people are great to me I think I scared them once and they remember it still I had som bees shipped time through the mail that shook them up a little when I called and told them to expect a package that buzzed loud. Since then I have not had any issues with my post man actually he gets my vote from last year the mail messed up my shipment of chicks and they arrived on Saturday evening I got a call about it and he met me half way to the post office special delivery all the chickens were alive but wouldn't have had water for a couple days if he wasn't so thoughtful about it. I got some eggs the other week he actually reversed his route so the eggs would not get hot! I had offered to pick them up he said he could have them here faster they were already in his truck and wouldn't overheat

When we first moved into our current home, I asked my post man if I could move my mailbox to the other side of our road because I have to get out of my truck when I come home to retrieve my mail. He said no, he needed it on the other side. But yet mine and my neighbors' mailboxes are side by side, last ones on the road and he turns around in MY driveway.

But my next carrier had delivered eggs one day. I was supposed to get 2 packages that day. I got text notification that one had arrived, so I went home to get them out of the sun. While I was unpacking the eggs, she came back with my other box. Said she had missed it and didn't want me to wait till the next day for re-delivery. So I'm glad I got a new one!
