March 2017! Hatch with us!

Gah! I WISH I could say such nice things about my PO. Last week I had eggs shipped from chickielady and WVduckchick...chickielady put fragile and a neon orange notice on her box with "call for pickup" highlighted, this box had come all the way from Oregon and was already in back on a shelf....how do you ignore so many notices on a package and throw it on a shelf? When I opened it it had a freshly broken egg....still wet and not seeped into the rest of the box. WVduckchick had the "call for pickup" on the shipping label. That box was sitting neatly on the front counter and the girl was getting ready to call me when I walked in. No broken eggs. I was perturbed greatly about this last week and when I asked around I was told the man who works in there is ACTUALLY the Postmaster and is known for shaking and throwing boxes marked fragile. Both boxes arrived at 8:06 and I got there at 8:15... 9 minutes to shake and throw a box. :(

I won a bid on some Ancona duck eggs and I am in discussion with the seller about sending them to another PO. What would you all do? Last week was my first shipped eggs...Monday I have live chicks coming. Yikes!

I can't begin to tell you how frustrated and angry this makes me. Last year I had ducklings shipped from Metzers...all the way across the country...with no problem. I wasn't prepared for an egg shaker....:idunno

I am somewhat happy with my hatch, but more upset with the post office in general. I get a LOT of shipped eggs. I've learned what areas to avoid buying from. But now, shipments that used to be perfect, are going to extra, un-needed sorting stations.

From one shipper last month I had a 72% hatch rate (13 out of 18) with their eggs. This month, the eggs from the SAME person, made an EXTRA stop in Los Angeles. I had 1 of 14 hatch. I only had 4 develop.

This is the breakdown......

None of the Barred Rock developed. (I think this was a fertility issue since the SLW were in the same box)
Two of the Silver Laced Wyandottes hatched, 6 of 8 made it to lockdown - 1 extra stop

None of the Blue Wyandotte hatched - 3 of 7 made it to lock down (one was broken on arrival - 2 extra stops

One of the Sizzle/Silkie hatched. Only 4 of 14 made it to lockdown. - 1 extra stop

Five of the Speckled Sussex hatched 6 of 8 made it to lockdown - 1 extra stop

Thirteen of the Rhode Island Red hatched, 14 of 18 made it to lockdown. No extra stops

I think it was an SS that died, and the SLW has the dislocated hip.

It's bad enough that have to be sorted on the shipping end and the recieving end, do they REALLy, REALLY need to go to extra locations? Can I file a claim on the unhatched eggs?

When we first moved into our current home, I asked my post man if I could move my mailbox to the other side of our road because I have to get out of my truck when I come home to retrieve my mail. He said no, he needed it on the other side. But yet mine and my neighbors' mailboxes are side by side, last ones on the road and he turns around in MY driveway.

But my next carrier had delivered eggs one day. I was supposed to get 2 packages that day. I got text notification that one had arrived, so I went home to get them out of the sun. While I was unpacking the eggs, she came back with my other box. Said she had missed it and didn't want me to wait till the next day for re-delivery. So I'm glad I got a new one!
I have 2 houses on my property, but only 1 address. It's a weird situation. Since we are the end of the road - our driveway is the last on that road on maps. We asked if we could use 1055 (our address) and 1057, the staff at the post office, said they didn't see an issue with that. So we used it. EVERY piece of mail delivered to 1057 was returned "undeliverable". We are at the top of a hill and our mail box is at the bottom. This same Idiot, would leave any package that didn't fit in the box, on TOP OF THE BOX. This is a 3 way stop sign which quite a bit of traffic. First time, we left a note in the box saying, please do not leave anything on top of this box. Second time, we called and complained. 3rd time - the item was stolen. I called again to claim and filed a claim. 4th time, I went to the post office and filed another complaint. 5th time - my daughter's seizure medication was stolen, I went down and THREW A FIT!!!!! There is now a HUGE yellow sign over my mail sorting box in the back stating that ANY package that wouldn't fit in the box, was to be left at the PO for pickup.

We have a new delivery person, and sometimes she forgets and puts it on her truck, but she leaves a note in the box, saying we can pick it up the next day. Only once has anyone left something on top of the box since. I'm thinking it was the first guy filling in who didn't give a flying fxxxk......

As the postal service becomes more and more obsolete, they reroute parcels to conserve on cargo space. Mail in our area used to come directly to our local sorting center, now everything goes through Sacramento. If I send a letter to my neighbor, it goes to Sacramento first. Go figure.

I have it great my postman will bring it to the door if it's tooo big for the mailbox and if it's marked special he knocks on the door to make sure we know it's out there

My silkie finally has babies! Three so far, all showgirls. I tried to steal one for Georgie, but it was peeping so much for its mom, I felt bad for it and put it back. I'm a wimp. I need to find some poults for Georgie.

Yes, true on my end as well. But, for me, my sorting station is in Goleta - which is 70 miles north west of me. But these eggs went to Los Angeles, which is 40 miles south east of me. One box went to Santa Clarita, 30 miles north east of me, to Los Angeles, to Goleta, to me. Did something change in the last 30 days that cause the extra trips?
