MARCH 2021 HATCH-A-LONG 🌷🌸🌼

My silkie eggs arrived today. I got eight eggs, reasonably well packed but a little bit dirty. I've gotten their surface relatively cleaned up and now they're getting a little rest before setting.

Yay!🥰
How do the air cells look? I have some shipped silkie eggs on day 6 on the February thread that all were saddled and/or detached. They did travel a long way though. Incubating them upright. 😊

They look great! And yes, 20 days is an eternity when you are waiting for eggs to hatch! 🥰
Thanks! I am so happy they are looking good because last year I set some call eggs and didn’t have good luck. It was my first time setting calls and they were from my own calls. Only 3 eggs started developing, 1 made it to hatch, and that one hatched backwards with assistance. It had a leg deformity and sadly didn’t make it. It was really disappointing but I’m glad I decided to try again. I’ve hatched jumbo pekins for years but this is only my second time setting call eggs and so far so good this time. It really is especially because I’m impatient. I’m already thinking about snuggling fluffy ducklings! ❤️

I have heard that calls are tricky. Good luck with them! 🥰

Oh goody!! I have been waiting for this thread to start!
I am going to put Sulmtaler eggs in my brand new machine on March 8th. The chicks have an immunization appointment on March 30th for Marek's.
I went and got a larger one that fits about 130 eggs. My "old" one will be for hatching only. It fits about 100 eggs.
A breeder friend is going to give me 25 white Sulmtaler hatching eggs. And the Sulmtaler eggs I am going to collect will be from my chicks from last year. So basically I am going to be a grandmother.. :lau :lau Can you tell I am a little excited? Probaby not!! :wee
Wish me luck!! I had to replace a rooster that didn't do his roosterly duties... poor guy is going to take a trip to my freezer soon. And I have one hen (or is it the rooster ) who is/are eating their eggs.
Can't say how many eggs I will set... but I doubt the will lay 130 eggs in 2 weeks. :idunno

They are but it is worth it! I love my calls and they were so tiny as ducklings. I have one that I got at a day old. He imprinted on me and now follows me everywhere, and if I get too far he flies and lands on my shoulder!
Thanks so much for the well wishes! I really appreciate it. This community is such a blessing! ❤️

Welcome!😊
If your chickens do lay 130 eggs in 2 weeks, make sure you tell us!
Congratulations on your soon to be status as "chicken grandma". 🥰

My Shipped air cells recovered. 24 hr at home, plus 3 day upright incubator rest. I used gentle tilting and Tipping the first 2 weeks, and hand turning for almost a week, til day 17 - for a hatch of 9 Chicks from a dozen ordered, plus some extras. My area is fairly humid, so i I kept humidity mainly in the 40's the first 2 weeks. Not over 68 during Lockdown if possible - but watch for sudden drawdown indicating a possible Pip - to bump up humidity to support the Zip process. I used that protocol for a fan-run tabletop generic model which holds 16 eggs. I removed Turning bars after only 1 night of using them, thinking that too much action after the 3 day rest. I did have some early quitters I think was from using the rolling turners that 1 nite. My 9 chicks are great tho! Managing some pasty-butt now. thank heaven for coconut oil and q-tips.
