First baby is out and active! An appenzeller/buff Orpington cross, she’s going to look interesting for sure.
Other two eggs pipped early this morning

Today is lockdown day! Candled them and prepared everything in the incubator 20 minutes ago. All 14 were still fine, right now the humidifier is adjusting the humidity (it finished just now, when I was typing), the temperature was already perfect like 18 minutes ago:D

Can't wait for baby photos !!!

First chick is out! Ameraucana (splash wheaten or white? tbd) x Barred Rock. I don’t see a head spot, so I think it’s a pullet. I can’t tell if it’s black or blue yet, which will be the “tell” on what color my rooster actually was. No other pips yet; I hope the others get going soon.

Well, the chick is nearly dry, and it appears to be black. Darn.

Anyone know what the typical color genetics are under the white in Ameraucanas? Obviously, all the Barred Rock x chicks will be black (solid females, barred males), but my Olive Egger x chicks will be little surprises for sure now...

I don't know the answer, but I'm very curious also!
