Are you nervous like the rest of us? lol

Day five for mine, couldn't help myself, had to take a peek at a few of them. Two each of the wheaten and lavender ameraucanas are growing! Didn't want to mess with them too long so I closed it back up. Didn't bother even trying with the marans eggs. Now I've promised myself to leave them alone! Life is good.

Drastic drop in temps tonight. I went to look and it said 95.5. It couldn't have been that low for very long though, I had just turned the eggs less than an hour earlier and temps were right on at that time. The light came on while I was standing there trying to figure out why it was cooling down, and it was flickering and going off for a bit before coming back on and flickering some more. I guess one of the wire nuts I used to wire the fixture had come loose, so I had to unpack the eggs and everything in there to take the bator out of the pantry and fix it. But it IS fixed and coming right back up to the right temp. I don't think the eggs actually cooled off inside.

well, i would think this is better than being to high of a temp.... Like momma getting off her eggs for a drink.

I would second the above -everything i read is that it is ok if they "cool" for 20 minutes a day - really the time the hen spends off the nest- i keep telling my self that the hen is not a machine and temps and humidity arent necessarily 100% the same ALL the time - this keeps me from clawing my eyes out in nervousness LOL -

I had a bit of a nightmare this morning

I decided I wanted to move the heat cable a bit so opened the bator, covered the eggs and did what i thought would be better for reducing cooler spots in the bator (if there are any). Put the lid back on, pluged the cable into the thermostat and waited for the temp to go up. After 5 - 10 mins I realized there's something wrong - the cable wasn't getting warm at all

I ripped it of the lid (bit stupid but I panicked) and plugged it directly in a socket - it was fine!!

Well, no idea what happened there but I got so stressed, I thought I was going to loose them again

This is my first hatch ever and my curiosity took over. I candled my eggs (just 5.5 days) there are at least 16/24 growing

! My kids thought this was weird and cool all at the same time. Well, we will see what happens.....it is going to be a long 2 weeks.
