Yup that is the end of a plumber's helper on top of an LED spot light. (Yes the plumber's helper was bought specifically for this purpose!

I had to discard one of my 13 eggs today. Very very clear blood ring had formed. I am candling every other day ('cause I am curious about development) to watch the progress. The eggs I have that are too dark to candle with my surefire are just sniffed, hopefully no go bad, and if they do, I can catch them before they get really bad!

We could see dark small center with veins that looks like a spider. Have you checked out the progression pictures in the link about incubation? Here is the link:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=261876 I am brand new to all of this and it helped to look at these. I will probably try again at the 10-12 day mark. Best of luck with yours!

I love those candlers!
Mine isn't nearly so high-tech, LOL. I use a mini 9 LED flashlight I got at the 99 cent store, and just sorta cup the egg in my hand with the flashlight on the bottom. I'd post a picture but it takes both hands to candle this way and I know you guys don't want just a picture of my hand.

Count me in, too. First batch going into the LG on Saturday. Silkie roo. RIR, EE, SLW hens. Anybody in SE Geogia have any Buff Orpingtons, or Black Marans, or Silkie eggs they want to sell?

I haven't candled quite yet... I'll wait for this weekend... the dark eggs I can't see thru anyway, but maybe those banties???
I'll try...
they are sure cute!
the bator is holding well on temp, 99.5 to 100.5 (still air LG with turner) so all is well there...

this week should be fun with everyone candling!!!

I have two week old chicks too, so I'll post some fuzz butts pics later... :)
