March Hatch A Long... anyone with me??

I couldnt see a thing on silkie eggs till I got a minimaglite that was 35 lumens. I was using a homemade candler and couldnt see a thing but shadows.

GAchick, if you can, go to your local Walmart or Home Depot (or whatever you have in the area) and see if you can find a mag light with as many lumens as possible. I don't know what color eggs you are trying to candle, but if your light is not real strong, you might not see anything developing. I had brown and green eggs on my first hatch and it was really hard to see much of anything. I thought I could see veining on some of them (mostly the lighter tan ones) only every now and again. I candled a lot (well every couple of days or so) until lockdown. I didn't get rid of any of the eggs until at least day 10 when it was kinda obvious which ones were not developing. I pretty much went on how dark the eggs were getting. If it looked like it just came out of the fridge, I would pull the egg. If I wasn't sure, I would leave it in. I would grab an egg out of the fridge to compare just to be sure. I cracked open all of the eggs I pulled and since I was being overly cautious, I never opened one that was viable. I even had one that never started developing make it though the hatch since I didn't want to accidentally open one that was a live chick growing. As long as they are not weeping or smell really bad, I leave them in. Doesn't hurt to do it.

Try using a piece of cardboard, cut a circle out, then place that on top of your flashlight, then egg.... That works pretty good for me, i don't think my flashlight is strong either. But my polish eggs are white/or light cream.
good luck

Because ONE incubator was not enough and may dh ordered more eggs, I got a LG from my Farm and Fleet. Set that up and had to take it back due to a bad thermostat. Exchanged the bator and the new one works well. So, got it up and running Wednesday, the eggs arrived via mail on Thursday, I let them sit until this morning. I wanted to wait a full 24 hrs before I set the eggs plus I wanted to make sure the LG regulated and held the temp well.
So, I set 6 Asil/Aseel eggs today for a hatch date of March 19th with candling in the 8th.

My ReptiPro 5000 is going strong and holding temp and humidity like a dream. The eggs get candled on the 28th.
