March Hatch A Long... anyone with me??

Another question or two:
Since the eggs I'm hatching are dark BCMs how do you tell if it's working? Will there be a smell if they go bad? If one of them explodes (does this actually happen?) will it damage the other eggs?

If you've hatched BCM eggs I want to hear from you please.

Thanks again,

Alan.

My broody hen is doing great with her first incubation. There were initially 11 eggs, but after candling I had to get rid of 4 light brown eggs today (none had developed at all). The one's that are left...2 white banty eggs and 1 WLH egg with bouncing babies inside and 4 dark brown eggs with unknown life inside (too dark for my light to shine through). We are on day 14...can't wait for the hatch!

Here is a picture of Strut and Dixie (the parents of the 2 banty eggs). Wonder what this odd couple's chicks will look like!

If you can...i would pick them up at the PO... i would call them a day before and ask for an AM number. I call at 6:15 in the AM and they let me know if my eggs are there and then i go to the back door to pick them up B4 anyone gets there...all is good...
this way, they don't get thrown around in the PO car/truck and in the different temps... Let them sit for a few hours B4 incubation.
good luck

I believe if it explodes they ruin the rest of your batch, but it's never happened to me so I don't know first hand.
I'm going to try to candle in 5-6 days, but doubt i'll be able ot see anything.. good luck

Talk of shipped eggs - well the seramas - i knew it was risky - but just pitched the last duds except for one! So from what i here the one developing egg is about the right ratio for them! But the Japanese Bantams i drove 15 miles to get - all going strong! Hooray!
Going this weekend to pick up brooder materials - lights etc. Any suggestions would be great - first time hatcherhere - not due till March 6-7

I'm frustrated. Day 8. Tried candleing my eggs last night. I don't see ANYTHING. But my flashlight may not be bright enough. But so far I see no veins or anything. Maybe my little young silkie roo ISN"T doing his job like I thought. My son and I both saw bullseyes on other yolks when we cracked eggs. (we thought, anyways).... I will have to buy some fertile eggs for the April hatch along I guess.... Dang it.
