March Hatch-A-Long

I figure they still have a chance since it's only day three and hens get off the nest for a while, but we'll see.
I'm not too hopeful, but that's probably because I'm just naturally pessimistic.
I have had the power go out for roughly 12 hours and still managed to hatch some. Don't worry to much I was the same fingers crossed everything turns out ok.:fl

I wouldn't worry too much just yet.. I've had eggs on day 5 sit in an incubator at 68f for almost ten hours(Broody had abandoned them) Most and survived and hatched without any troubles in my incubator.

:frowMind if I join? I haven't been around in a while and this is the first hatch I'll be doing in quite some time, so I'm super excited to have little fluffles again! :jumpy

Right now I have 14 Pekin/Pekinx duck eggs candled viable and 12 EEs I'll check on Friday night. All are due the 16th.
Due to the cold, I'm not sure how many of the chicken eggs will be good. I pulled a dozen duck eggs when I candled but, thanks to writing the dates on the eggs, I know most of them were collected when it was seriously freezing out, so I'm not going to hold it against them yet :p
They're in a forced air hovabator with an auto turner. Temps are staying fairly steady between 99.5-99.9. Humidity spiked a bit to 58, so I'm working on getting it back down around 40. Otherwise all is well. Thankfully didn't lose power to the windstorm yesterday and this morning :D

Yeah from the research I've done, people have tested and left incubators off (Different times of incubation, multiple hatches) 24 hours without affecting the hatch rate much. I believe it dropped 8-18% depending on the time of heat interruption.

Welcome! :frow Sounds like a rocky start but nothing that can't be overcome.Think many of us lost electricity the past couple days lol I was out for about an hour and a half on day one of incubation and they're shipped so not great odds, to begin with, lol
Mine are due about the same time as yours within a day or so. So we shall see how we both fair. I also will be putting more eggs in (Way too many lol) in a few days so it will be a staggered hatch to boot.

Of course you can join! It definitely is nice to have fluffles around. Be thankful that you didn't lose power; it is not fun to get up in the morning and have to get ready in the dark and without running water.
Good luck with your hatch.

Thanks! I am very grateful. I’ve done the whole power outage panics, rushing to insulate my incubator as much as possible while frantically searching for a flashlight! Of course, now I have my cell phone on hand constantly, so at least I’m good that way
(And, yes, fluffles )

@cppeace Thanks! I’m also doing staggered hatches. I basically set every weekend lol

A sample pack of my eggs :D

@Stick Chicken Sorry you lost your power. We had the same winds here in MA pushing 70MPH. I was at work all day and panicking that my power would go out. We lose it all the time. Thankfully I did not lose power but its still windy today so I have may fingers crossed. Sounds like others think you may be ok. This is my first time hatching so Im no help but Im right there with you on the worrying.
