March Hatch-A-Long

Pics
YEah, that's where I got my eggs, They were doing fine until lockdown so I don't know what happened in those few days :(
On their site, it says $10 a chick plus $45 shipping so not as bad a Greenfire but I was really only needing about 6 Breese total and The Swedes were just more to help the rare breed. The minimum is 6 chicks from them, so again, not terrible. Still going to be almost $20 a chick :( If I happen to have 2 pullets and one rooster I'll just breed up from them. If I am super unlucky and have no pullets I'll be eating two breese and probably ordering chicks from them I guess. We shall see what happens.

And yeah I will take pictures tomorrow of all 4. Letting the Swede and 3rd Bresse dry the rest of the way. Weirdly, the Chicks, once dry start panting. There should be plenty of air and the temp is only about 101 Humidity high 60s.
I plan to add a fan to this incubator before my attempt at quail, so hopefully, that helps. The two dry Bresse are in the brooder, acting comfy and trying to eat their bedding. We're going pick up feed in the morning.

So was nearby and decided to snap a few pics
First pic is first hatched, literally leapt from egg lol

second is lighter than first

Also is smaller and quieter.
I also took a hot wet cloth and got some gunk off the swede. Been over 24 hour is dry but caked with gunk. Got most off.

Well I needn't have worried all of a sudden this one decided to hatch View attachment 1710550 View attachment 1710554and two with their mummy
Congratulations on the chicks! The broody and her babies look really cute as well.
From the 5 shipped Blue Birchen Marans eggs that made it to lock down, I now have 3 chicks in blue, black and splash. That's pretty cool! A 4th chick is trying to zip. It's day 22 here. The 2 "older" upside down chicks are picking on their newest sibling and generally acting drunk and angry, except when they pass out suddenly as if from narcolepsy. I may move them to the brooder tonight.
They do tend to pick at the younger ones. I had to separate my cemani crosses for a day because the d'uccles were obsessed with pecking their toes. Must find them bizarre because they're black and not feathered unlike their own toes.
Did a quick candling and yeah air cells all grew but not seeing any movement or evidence of life, removed 4 that were definitely not looking right of the eggs and will turn off the incubator tomorrow evening if none of the eggs candling better, pip or hatch.
So, looks like 4 is going to be it. Ah well, will have to try again for more bresse and maybe swedes if this one grows well. We shall see. Need to decide soon. Getting warm for shipping eggs. ugh I hate buying shipped eggs.
I'm sorry about your bad luck with hatching eggs. I've never used shipped eggs, but I can understand the trouble. At least you have four that hatched and maybe you'll have some pullets.

Okay, so I kept seeing you guys saying, breese/bresse, but it just clicked that I know about this breed and read an article about it once online. (I probably should have looked it up before, but didn't think about it)
Apparently the whole thing is that they come from a certain region of France, Bresse, and are a really delicious meat bird, or something. Also, there was a whole section of the article devoted to talking about how these chickens are colored like the French flag with red, white, and blue. (that's probably why your comment made me remember this)
There was a lot more to the article, but I read years ago, so that's about all I remember. Either way, they are pretty cool chickens.

20190322_192741.jpg Haven't taken the time to check in lately. Busy, busy, busy! Here's a pic of this weeks hatch as I cleared shells. It went very well. Of the initial 20 eggs set, 18 made it to the hatcher. 17 of those hatched like clockwork, 11 bantam New Hampshires & 6 lf Dominiques. Humidity issues plagued last week's hatch yielding only 8 out of 13.
