It's really hard to see in the picture, but it looks like the yolk sac. Leave it in there and it might get absorbed on its own. If others hatch and start picking at it, remove them as soon as they're dry.

Can I put Polysporin on it? I went and got some. Should I cover it up so she doesn't accidentally kick it and burst it open?

I wouldn't do anything to it right now. If it's going to be absorbed you don't want to put anything on it.

It is getting worse- a vein is being pulled off it. Can I wrap it up in sterile gauze???

I think silkies are hard to hatch from what I've heard. This is my opinion, but I think that silkies' genetics really act against them in a lot of ways. They are not hardy at all and very fragile from incubation to adulthood. A couple years ago I talked to my parasitology professor about chickens because he did his Master's research on coccidiosis in chickens. I told him I had silkies and he just laughed . Just like bulldogs and other highly bred breeds, they just don't have the vigor that comes with a mixed gene pool.

No, and it burst and a little bit of pink fluid came out. I am pretty sure it is the yolk sac. I put polysporin on it, recommended by someone.

I do put neosporin on mine that have that much yolk sticking out. It won't hurt it any. There isn't anything really that will hold it in..if it's yolk, it should absorb, or it will have a big belly button. From what I can see, it doesn't look that bad. I used to think the same thing when I first started hatching. Is that intestine? Scared me to death. Just wait and see when it starts getting up and around how it looks. And oh, the neosporin helps keep the chicks from pecking on it, because they don't like it! ha, I gob it on so they will leave it alone.
