March Hatch-Along Thread- Come Hatch With Us!!!!!

Just checked in to watch the babies hatch...not quite there yet but probably won't be long! So cool!

My bators are FULL now- both of them! I set 14 shipped lemon cuckoo orp eggs tonight. I only had space for 4 more eggs in the big bator, so I took an egg carton, cut the 'cups' out & made a hole in the bottom of each cup then spent 30 min figuring out how to have the 10 eggs upright in the cups in my brinsea mini advance- I DID IT! So now I have 14 lemon cuckoo orps, 10 polish & sultan, 18 col wyandotte & 15 silver lace wyandotte eggs cooking- IF I had wanted to hand turn all those eggs I could have put all of them in the big bator, BUT I don't have the time or inclination to hand turn all those eggs- plus since they are all shipped, don't want them laying on their sides. So this way it worked out

I was a little ticked off when the SLW eggs came the other day b/c they were not packed well & she sent just the 18, no extras. 3 eggs were completely crushed! Of all the eggs I bought & had shipped, this way the dumbest packing I've seen! She just took a small piece of newspaper wrapped around each egg, then stuck the eggs in the middle of the box and had loosely balled up newspaper around them. Not sure if any will hatch since they were every which way in that box. Nothing to hold them steady or keep them from banging into each other- I'm surprised that there were not more than 3 crushed! And she marked 6 eggs SLW in pencil, but the others are unmarked? So I am wondering if they are all SLW and she just didn't finish marking them or are the unmarked eggs something else??? She did not respond when I asked this question- so who knows. I did not leave nice feedback either! Everyone else I've bought eggs from have been so nice, packed great etc. Oh well just have to wait to see what if any hatch

My goodness Pug, you DO have a bunch going don't you! Mine is full of call ducks and dewlap toulouse right now... I hatched out nine brahma and cochin chicks a few weeks back but the hens have decided to shut down on me lately because it got cold here again.

So I've decided just to concentrate on ducks and geese for the next few weeks till the weather gets a bit nicer and the geese stop laying for the season.

I hate to hear about your bad experience with an egg seller....oh that makes me so ill!!! Anyone who's going to sell and ship eggs should ALWAYS do everything they can to make sure they get to the buyer as safely and securely as possible! I've had one or two shipments come in that could have been better but most people really try to keep the eggs safe. I'm just glad you left negative feedback. Some people just won't do that even when they have a bad experience for fear of retaliation or whatever. I for one ALWAYS look at feedback and if I see that someone's had a bad experience at all, I really take that into account. Sometimes things go wrong and it's no fault of the seller, but most good sellers will do everything they can to make it right. Sounds like this person just didn't know what they were doing or they just didn't really care...which is worse!

Anyway, I hope you have a fantastic outcome!

Hokankai..... I think it's positively adorable that you've named your doodles before they've even HATCHED!!!! That gives a whole new spin on that old saying "don't count your chickens before they hatch"! No, don't count them...NAME THEM! LOL

Hahaha I actually let my friends and family name them ^_^. That way when we're watching my hatch cam we have chicks to root for!

I just found this in one of the eggs. What is it?

Looks like a quitter.. :(

I do not, keep those in my bator. :/ It's already bad, it will get worse fast. I bet it looks slushy when you move it around. Wash your hands really well if you handle it again, before turning the other eggs. Is it not smelling yet?
