What a difference some knowledge makes! Thanks BCYers - the first incubation, I did everything wrong (cuz I was too **** impatient to do any research!!) because I thought having done this 25+ years ago, I didn't need research. Research? I don't need no stinking research!
Um, actually, I did. I got 3 little duckies from 24 last hatch.
This time, I've had three out since lockdown Monday night and I have 12 more that have external pips!!
Caution - cute pics ahead!!
Ducky #1 - Pekin/Cayuga or Pekin/Blk Swed
e
#2 Duckie: Definitely Cayuga/Sussex
Duckie #3 with #1 and #2.
Duckie #2 again
The fabric 'doll' belongs(ed!) to my 4 yr old and I put it in for 1 as she was by herself so long.
And just bc I think he is beyond adorable (and pretty sure it's 'he'...little whistle getting softer), here's my Topper. From the minute he hatched, he's been more 'people' than 'duck'. I'm trying to convince hubby we need a house duck!!! lol
5 yep 5 eggs left out of the 43 that I set i cracked open my quitters from today and found nasty cheesiness on the inside of one.
The 5 remaining all looked real good tho. They are all from one hen too, my silver kraienkoppe. I'm now like
WTMF
happened!!!!!!!!!!!!) Ill be going to the April hatch along soon and if winter would ever decide to go away (It is 10 degrees F outside right now.) maybe my hens would go broody and I wouldn't need my 1970's sears roebuck POS inucbator.
I'm done with that thing. Too many eggs die in that thing for to keep trying with it.
Patty my Partridge Chantecler is laying pretty well again and has been a better incubator in under a year of life than I have in my three. So I'm really hoping she gets that urge to brood soon. Mother nature is taking me to school again go figure.
I so want to hatch my own eggs but I just got to remember I got 50 chicks coming in the mail in April.
