Nonsuch, you make alot of excellent points. In all my frenzy, I do really need to focus on the environment more. Now I see why I had hatches last year, and one out of each of several hatches died, but the rest didn't.

The hatches were kept separate from the flock for 12 weeks. It went from living on my patio, to, lastly, living in a separate pen surrounded by the flock.

Another point someone mentioned. Weak immune system genetically. I've lost silkies and Polish. The rest, except for one 1/2 Polish, were blue or splash. They all had blue. I guess all that inbreeding to get the color does weaken a bird genetically.

well, just when I think my oldest orp pen is over the hump another comes stumbling out

. I am down to 11 orps(from 21), only 4 pullets. I just don't know anymore....am starting to think my mother is right(and I HATE to admit THAT), maybe I should just cull all my chickens and be happy with my ducks

Oxine can be used as a mist not only on surfaces, but also over the birds? However do not mix with anything but water. I would keep using it in the bird's environment and vaccinate all birds ASAP.

Polish roo, who is #8, who is 18 weeks old, will be euthanized today. He looks absolutely miserable, and pooing lime green.

Krista, I have followed your experience on the Import thread and my thoughts have been with you, sooo very sorry for your losses.

I would like to know if anyone can tell me the best place to buy the Marek's vaccine along with oxine? With showing and going to be exposing sooo many more of my stock starting this fall I would like to start taking precautions and vaccinate all my grown/growing stock along with all new chicks born from here on out.

Krista, one of my "resistant" silkies died today, totally limp, laying on the ground. I picked her up and she died in my hands.

so sorry Sem, I lost 2 yesterday

. I do have a couple more to cull, but was waiting until tomorrow. as horrible as it sounds I try not to cull other days because trash pick up is thursday and when we have too many losses it starts to stink in the heat

. I am looking forward to the winter and hopefully the slow down of losses because they will be older....
