Marking eggs

I wouldn't risk it. No one is certain if sharpies or markers will harm the chicks or not. Everyone knows a regular pencil won't because they are used every hatch.

What about Crayon? Would that work?

I have used a big fat permanent marker pen to write a single number, (day of the month it was laid) and it has not hurt any of my chicks. Only one splay foot out of about thirty chicks so far.
