Is it possible that something happened with the heat source and it overheated the brooder? In that case I would expect chicks to be doing all they can to get away from the heat -including busting out- and then once away maybe chilling to death.

I got that. Now I want to know what electric heating plate specifically. I see that it appears to be hung. The one time I used a heat plate for chicks is the only time I ever lost every chick I had in that brooder. They all died in contorted positions.They said an electric heat source
