Mass Murder last night

My daughter took most of the pictures. I think I only actually took two of the line up pics. I wasnt sure how to do it(as is or in a line up) but for documentation in case this goes to court it had to be done. The ones that died later are not in the pics and I didnt photo them. They will just have to take my word on that.

NOW I have Hawks flying over. I think they smell or see the blood. Those babies left living are in the house (so they are safe from the hawks) and will stay in the house as parakeets for a Looong time!

You are so right! Those dogs were well fed and maybe overweight. It was a FUN kill not a starving to death I need food kill. Bored dogs will find something to do, and its never good! I definately blame the owner, If he had really cared he would have kept his dogs at home, in the house, in a fence or on a chain.

Too bad my babies had to pay the price for their night on the town.

Having retired from law after 24+ years, I am so happy that you took picstures of the scene as it was as well as the line up. It will be a tremendous help when you pursue legal action.

I am so sorry you are going through this and even more sorry that the babies had to die in such a violent way.

It will be okay...take your time.

Edit: Of course the owners are responsible...their dogs were in your yard instead at home where they belonged.

But it's good to hear that there will be more fuzzybutts in your future.

i just have to say i REALLY honestly feel bad for you and the chickens that died!..i would be heart broken if it happend to me..but please..please..remember..that the dogs are not just being "mean"..or killing for fun..wheather they are well feed or starving...they did not do it to be mean..(those are human emotions..dogs dont think like we do..)...it is their instinct...they really cant help it..unless trained otherwise...just as it is a chickens instinct to kill a worm..or peck or scratch....or whatever...and PLEASE...understand that i'm not trying to sympathize with the dogs..and am aganist you killing them...i mean..they were being aggressive to you also!!..and that in my opinion..is the worst...and i really feel that if they did indeed turn on you and your husband as you stated...that they needed to be put down..but thats just my opinion...again..i am very soory for the loss of your chickens...and also..those dog owners should be responsible(money wise) for your lost chickens....Wendy

I am sorry for your loss, things like that, when they happen, have their own pain that comes in waves, and it takes time to soothe it somewhat. Your friends at BYC really care, and are here for you!

I stupidly lost all but 3 of my flock 21 of chickens, my 4 geese, my 3 pygmy goats, a pair of blue slate turkeys, and some of my pigeons to my OWN dogs, that I no longer have. It was sickening and I will never forget that night, or my lost pets.
It was a while before I could do anything but hold on to and cherish the ones that were left, then I began to gain a renewed interest in the chickens, more so than before. Thats actually how I got started on BYC.....but you know that night still lingers......

Rebuild your flock when you are ready, in your own time. This spring, perhaps, let me know. I will send you some Black Copper Marans eggs when my girls start laying. Just tell when you're ready and I'll ship them! I'll be starting my Frizzle Mille Fleur D'Uccle project then too! You can be one of my first recipients, if you like!! They could be really interesting!

Let me know, and take care....time will heal.......

Thanks so much for your generous offer. Hopefully by spring I will be ready to start over and if so I will contact you. I am taking some time off. BYC Has been great! Non chicken people just dont get how you can be attached to a bunch of birds, how I can be so sad much less understand that they had personalities and quirks different to each others. They would come when we call and they like to hang with us and sit on us and share snacks with us. Bird people get that.
THANKS from the heart. Dena

If anyone asks what kind of strange birds those are in your house, you can reply, "Birds? Those aren't birds. They're mutated bunnies from Three Mile Island"
Or "Those aren't chickens those are rare African Ground Parrots...They make a chicken like sound to protect themselves from jaguars and lions"
