MAY 2016 "Land of the Free Because of the brave!" Hatch-a-Long Hosted by, Mike & Sally

Hello! Family brought us some eggs to try hatching for them. Black Star, and we are hoping to get a few more backyard mix of our own. Would love some new breeds, maybe next year we will order some.

I'm going to be incubating peafowl eggs. Right now I have two eggs from my White peahen. The male is a White peacock as well. I'm still waiting for my other White peahen and Indian blue peahen paired up with my Indian Blue male to lay eggs. I'm going to be incubating 5 eggs from each hen hopefully. I don't use any auto egg turners. I turn my eggs all by hand.

If you quit eating sugar, you really will go through withdrawal. It takes a week or two to get it out of your system but if you make it that long, the cravings mostly go away. I haven't eaten sugar since early February and it feels wonderful to go to the store and not be a slave to cravings and sugar.

Yeah, I have heard that sugar is bad or deadly or whatever and how it's exactly like an addiction and stuff but I never really believed it. But it makes sense especially cause even if I go a little bit without it I want it. I think I maybe could make it but it's hard to. I eat a lot of fast food and drink soda too especially Coke. (Ironic since sugar essentially is or may as well be the other coke it's so addictive  ) . The funny (or sad?) Part is I used to occasionally eat sugar and still eat real meals. Now? The only thing I eat unless we go out or my parents happen to cook is junk whether it's 5000 snacks or fast food or lately it's subs which are actually pretty good but still. It only really started over the summer/early fall but I've always loved sugar ha but needless to say I've gained a ton of weight too. I know it's a tiny bit taboo to talk weights but I don't really care about it or mind oddly enough, just concerned about it being unhealthy and the fact I feel like **** (physically/health wise), soo used to be around 165 and that was pretty steady for a while, one year I was 145 which was way too low but after that it's been like holdi g steady. But then within late summer/early fall it started slowly creeping up and up and up, 170, into the 180s, 195, now I'm holding a steady 200... I'm like 5' 11", 6', so it's not really noticeable or a problem yet but I feel like gaining that much, especially in such a short period of time and when I also don't exercise at all, is really really bad. Which is why I bought all the healthy food today and am trying to grow vegetables this year. And of course the chickens. I tried the eggs today finally. I was too scared before haha my dad and brother have been eating them and I put them in brownies once. But I made scrambled eggs and French toast with them this morning. And it was delicious. Of course, we went to Buffalo Wild Wings for lunch/dinner but at least I tried for 5 seconds lol anyways, I think that I probably could make it but I think it'll also probably be a lot harder than I think it will be. I don't know. The problem is almost everything has sugar or some form of it in it :( so like, I don't know whether to completely avoid it altogether and only ever eat raw foods, which is a much harder path, or whether I should just avoid the obvious stuff, soda, desserts, snacks, super super processed things, etc.???? Thanks and sory for MAJORLY hijacking the thread hahah oops..

Just lost my job. Fortunately have 30 more days to find work as I have 2 more paychecks coming. No family anywhere near me anyhow so planning on moving. Hoping to take most of my poultry with as I have an aunt with acreage who I am hoping will bird-sit until I get back on my feet. Happy Friday :/

So sorry to hear about your job loss. I was there just a little over a year ago. Finally found a job after 10 months without one. It only pays about half if what I was making, but it gets me by and I still have my chickens.

Hope you find something soon.

Okay now I've officially caught up. I rally went through and read a the posts.

On the feed thing. I switched to a 22% Game Bird layer feed, about three months ago, maybe it's been 4, anyway, my birds love it. After about a month and half their laying had picked up and seems like the eggs have gotten bigger. I have noticed that there are a couple if hens that their shells are still a littke thin. The calcium in this feed is the same ad the other layer I was feeding, so maybe some hens need way more calcium than others, I do give them baked egg shells. The feed is called Caldwell Feeds, it is milled in Rosebud, Arkansas.

Now, yesterday afternoon I picked up some NN eggs that are grossed with a Polish rooster. Gonna try to put hats on some of my Naked Necks ( Turkens).

Getting the eggs a ready to set on Wednesday night Kaye or maybe Thursday. I'll post what and how many after I figure it all put myself.

So of my leftover aprils eggs I have 4 that look like quitters. Two peeping. And one of those has pipped. I may have a may day easter egger.
