May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

I had a visitor tonight when I went out to put chickens and ducks in for the night. We have some really tame Mule deer around this area. She just stood there and watched....was only about 50 yards away or so. She is probably the same one I have seen in my chicken pen a couple times to drink water from the duck pools.

We just had 16 hatch nankins and Cochins :D, and we purchased 11 Delaware, 4 Leghorn, and 3 Olive Eggers, needless to say - I need to have a conversation with my wife because I asked her as I was typing this... oh lord. (wait) she just said... oh oh and 4 new brahma chicks. help. haha
Nankins?!? I LOVE my Nankins! I have eight rose comb egglets in lockdown at the moment, but I haven't had much luck, this year - lots of last-minute quitters. Keep your fingers crossed for us, this time!

I really can't wait to cycle a different breed of rooster through my flock so that I can see how they grow out.

Even though I am completely obsessed with the Jersey giant breed, I don't think I will ever try to cross them again for meat birds.

When we butchered the last one he was 16 weeks old and the meat was very sparse compared to an easter egger cockerel.

We don't have Squatch's 2 offspring pullets because my friend really wanted them. He brought them home and I'm not even joking with you, they laid eggs the next day 🙄 They are 20 weeks old. He really likes them.
I hatched a Rhode Island Red Brahma bantam year or so ago the mother was the Brahma bantam he turned out beautiful to me

Kelseyk, Your deer looks preggers!

Probably is! It is about time for them to start having their babies. She will probably have it in the trees by the bridge on the south end of our farm or the grass corner across the road from our place. I will probably start finding fawn tracks in our driveway in a couple months from her bringing it out to walk around the farm at night.

We have had them come right up to our house to drink out of the dog's water dish.
