May 5th, truckers no work day.

I would insert a really politically biased comment here but I would probably get flamed/banned, or both. I'm all for 'enviromentally conscious', but there's a point to where it's taking it too far when you care more about the enviroment than the people that inhabit it. The earth is NOT God, or any sort of god or goddess. People need to stop worshiping it. I'm sorry Rein, not lashing out at you, just the general stupidity of society, America, and the government in general.

Check out this page, a truck company and their perks.
http://www.crengland.com/about/index.jsp

Notice how it mentions on the right how
"you are guarenteed to pay only $1.25 per gallon for you diesel"

Big trucking co.s can weather it, because they buy sooo much its cheaper, or they are owned by oil companies and/or subsideriaries of one.
I know a lady who leases her trucks out to --oil companies and they get free fuel in return.

It really is sickening that ther ear enot more action takers.
Hate to see what this winter will be like.
Take care all.

As I mentioned in my previous post. My husband is a truck driver and big companies have contracts for their diesel, but many are not being renewed, or have been renegotiated to reflect the rising fuel costs. The term independent driver refers to drivers that are not driving under a big company name. They are generally driving for themselves and paying for their own fuel. You have contracted drivers that drive for big companies like Werner and own their own trucks, but drive under the Werner name. These drivers aren't considered independent and won't be participating in any strikes, just as my husband won't unless his company calls to strike (I've explained his reasons in my earlier post). We had a strike of independent drivers two months ago and it didn't make a difference. These are the smallest percent of drivers on the road. It will take having the large companies call a strike for a change to be made.

I am sure we are in a recession and heading for a depression if something doesn't change. I've said this here before. Do you ever remember the government passing out big checks to boost the economy before? Even during the recession of the 80's? Me neither. Seems like a desperate move to me.

I agree, I believe we are heading for a depression soon. I hate to say it, but it's been bothering me something aweful lately. I've been looking for more ways to feed my flock without buying commercial feeds and have even looked into buying a dairy goat or two, so my family and I won't go hungry. Ethanol is just speeding up the process severely.

Two things here....

tax cuts boost the economy. in the 80's it was 'Reaganomics' - reduce taxes to spur the economy, which in turn will generate more tax revenue

Keep in mind this is NOT "Free Money" It is NOT a 'gift' from your friendly government. It is YOUR money - it is money that was siphoned off your paycheck in the first place being returned to you.

It's a tax break - pure and simple. It's just a more obvious tax break to give a 'rebate' check (which feels more like a 'gift') than a tax break where less is taken out.

And, we got a similar rebate back in 2001.

Here's an interesting article on the whole debate between tax rebates vs true tax cuts...

The powers that be made a huge mistake when they tapped into our food supply to make alternative fuel. I mean just listen to how stupid that sounds. They have help drive up the cost of every dairy and meat product at the grocery store. They are bankrupting the farmers, both commercial and family farms. Its insanity. The thing that makes it so bad is that there is alternatives. I've talked about this, along with others, here before. There is sugar cane, beet pulp and hemp, which as americans we aren't allowed to use because of the trace amounts of THC in it, despite all of the value it could add to our lives. This is just a few better sources. Other countries are able to produce and sell alternative fuels for 80 cents a gallon...EIGHTY CENTS! and they are not raising food prices, if anything they are finding good uses for already surplus resources.

I'm telling you between the gas crises and our failing health system this country's policies is driving me nuts. The whole world is laughing at "the world's most advanced country" right now.

There are cars out there that run on compressed air.. COMPRESSED AIR!!! just ordinary every day air.. It's crazy, they are just being stubborn and not wanting to give up their gas.

The bottom line is that this is indeed free money. Its the governments choice to give it back, or keep it and if things were hunky dorey they would keep it. We have never, my family, gotten money back like this and I'm no spring chicken. We have always gotten our regular tax refund, but never have we got this kinda money back out of the blue.

We all know the whole point in this is to boost our economy, but its not going to be enough in our world of $4 milk and $2 bread. As an article I was reading the other day said, this money will not be used to buy tv's and luxury items as the government is hoping. This is going to be used by the majority to pay off bills that are backing up and to buy groceries that have been skyrocketing. When polled the majority of people where going to the grocery store first with their money and then paying household bills. It will be interesting to see what happens over the next few months.

In regard to alleged shortages such as the "energy crisis" in the late 70s: at that time my husband worked as a towboat pilot for a petroleum company. At the same time we would wait in line, could only buy gasoline on Tuesday, and could only get $5 worth at one time, he would spend sometimes up to TWO WEEKS standing by at an oil dock because ALL THE TANKS WERE FULL and there was no empty tank to pump the gasoline/diesel/aviation fuel or whatever was in those particular barges into. We lived in Gonzales LA at the time (between NOLA and Baton Rouge). We wanted to go to a family reunion in Arkansas but were afraid we couldn't find gasoline along the way. We decided we'd drive as far as Natchez and if we couldn't find gas, we'd still have enough to get home. When we got to Natchez & asked them how much gas we could buy, they looked at us like we were crazy. They said, "uh... as much as you want". We filled up our tank and 2 lg. fuel cans we'd brought w/ us. At NO POINT on the trip did we have any trouble finding gas until we got back into Louisiana. As many refineries dot the river, all that gas being refined in LA was being shipped out of state. We can't believe everything our media are telling us, we can't believe what our govt. is telling us, and we'd be utter FOOLS to believe what some of our presidential candidates are telling us! I said all that to say this: we serve a big God who knows what we need and how to provide it. If we will trust in Him, He will take care of His own. If gas goes to $10 a gallon, He will either provide the funds or make it possible for us to not need the gas. Yes, our economic position looks precarious, but when we've come to the end of our own resources, it's God's time to shine.
