May Hatch Thread--Fill up those bators n' broodies!

I was able to upload the assisted hatch clip to youtube so I could show you guys. The gooey stuff in the end was all hatching gunk, no yolk as it was all absorbed. You can see he was pretty much stuck in the shell due to low humidity (I'm doing staggered hatches, and this one zipped a day early). Hope y'all enjoy!

Here's a photo of the same chicken the day after hatching. Named it Rebekah Mikaelson. Another TVD-chick. Haha!

I am feeling very disappointed in my eggs. I am up to day 7. I brought eggs locally instead of getting them shipped and only 4 have developed. When I brought them one egg had a date written on it which made it 10 days old. I asked her if they were fresh and she said they were but I am guessing they were not and some were probably older then 10 days. One had an air cell on day one which I thought was strange. I am rather annoyed about it as now I am paying for shipped eggs and I should've just done that in the first place.

hmm... I have 20 shipped eggs and all the ones I have candled so fare are developing. If they'll survive until hatch day is yet to be proved though...

Congrats on the hatch! Hope all the others hurry up and get out of those shells really fast!

That is a hoot! I would be afraid if my wife enjoyed chickens too. As it is, she tolerates them, and that is all that keeps me from going overboard. When I lived out in the country, I had a big old wooden incubator that would do 250 eggs. I raised so many chickens that we had to eat a chicken a day just to keep up. Our kids just laugh now days when they talk about chickens. Hopefully I will be able to get one of my grand kids hooked in the future

i had the same story when my kids were young we lived out in the country and ended up having about 200 rir hens the kids had to have some feed store chicks so we bought them and about a week later the cat had a romp with them , the boys were broken hearted so i ordered some birds from a hatchery for them they had a min order and they just got cheaper when you bought more so i ordered 100 thinking the cat would have its share and still leave some for the boys well the cat had lost int rest in them after the feed store lot so they all made it. i liked them so much the next spring i ordered 100 more lol chicken math go figure lol
