May trade for a new horse thoughts please?

The horse did look like it had knee problems to me along with issues with trimming so I know what is a no then but just making sure.

I agree with Pat n Chicks, you will need to be patient to find just the right horse for you considering #1 you want to trade some beef and/or want to spend at the most $1000.00.

In todays market, that will be possible but you'll have to weed out the bad horses because so many people are getting rid of their horses due to economics.

If I was in the market for a horse today, I would have the same criteria:

1. totally broke and very experienced trail horse
2. sound and healthy
3. no bad habits
4. gets along with other horses (my pony & goats)
5. easy keeper
6. strong hooves (I think barefoot is the way to go)
7. must be appealing to ME - I want a horse I feel I can bond with. (I felt that with my 1st horse but not the 2nd experienced trail horse I got as the pasture mate).

I am not patient. When I make up my mind I want something, I would be willing to pay up to $2500.00 to get an experienced trail horse that also meets my requirements listed above.

sassy is a great horse shes a great beginner horse or confidence builder.. she trails great she and i went swimming this summer, shes not scare of anything shes a real people pleaser, i took her to alot of play days and even won a lil money with her.. i have a stack of ribbions she won and shes fun to ride..she came from the hermistan sale last feb.. she was a ranch horse i was told shes 10 shes 15.3 shes a quarter horse mix but shes not papered... im letting her go to a good home only im only selling her because i have 2 project horses who need more time.. and with her around no on else gets ridden i choose to ride her.. i will b riding her till she sells im flexable a little with the price to the right home but im not in any hurry to get rid of her u can call or text 360-520-5081

Oh thank you I emailed them. I seen another horse in olympia but it was not broke or needed an experienced rider something like that.

arabianequine, I just went through this 14 page thread, pics etc etc and I have a couple questions for you...please try not to take offense as I am a generally direct person and find that manner leads to no confusion on my questions... lol

1. What are you looking for? a reliable trail horse yes but what else...

do you want a sturdy built all around horse? A mare? a gelding? what age? Is some fire okay or do you want a puppy?

2. How long do you plan on trail riding the horse? ie a couple times per month, per week?

3. How long do you want to trail ride with your new horse? a year or so, 5 years 10 years?

4. what kind of ride do you want? smooth no bounce? leisurely? endurance? walking over logs across water???

5. Do you have a equine vet available to give a vet exam? Do you have a farrier to come check out the soundness of the feet? Do you have a trainer to go with if not, do you know where to find one? Usually trainers charge 10% of the sale price to go with a give recommendations.

Basically, if you cannot get that list together, you are really wasting your time and gas money running around looking at hacks and problems owners want to shove off on someone else. You are doing the looking for the needle in the haystack...the diamond in the pile of CZs. Good luck in your search. I myself am waiting patiently for my new horse to be transported from Wisconsin to me here in KY. So I understand your excitement completely.

Too bad you're not on this side of the States, I've got several good horses that would love to have a more useful home. It's tough and getting tougher to find "good ones" out there.

If it were me looking for a horse. I wouldn't be too concerned about the intermediate rider part if you have a trainer working with you.

I had a trainer working with me for over a year with my green broke first horse Miss Kitty. She just needed lots of ground work (ground manners) that then transferred to the saddle and then letting her know everyday that I was the boss. She was pushy if you let her.

I would respond to the ads with intermediate rider and ask why?
