May trade for a new horse thoughts please?

I wanted to add some people/buyers do the wrong things and treat their animals poorly but that does not mean that all people/buyers do, just like not all organizations are bad. I can't change what they offer but I can decide what I am gonna do either I buy the animal and follow their rules or don't buy the animal from them.

I think he looks like a great horse that comes with experience, looks to be in good condition offered at a great price.

For me, I wouldn't be concerned about the grumpy part that he later explained to be 'just not a lovey dovey type'. My feeling would be maybe he's just not being lovey dovey towards the guy posting or in the pics.

Some people see horses that are lovey dovey in your pocket type others see as having no respect for personal space.

Sounds to me this guy is very respectful of personal space and is being perceived as grumpy and not lovey.

If you like, I could arrange to go see the horse since I live 30-40 minutes north of Chehalis. I still consider myself a beginner or green since I didn't get my first horse until I was 45 and it's been 3 yrs since I sold my horses. I don't have a video camera but could borrow one as well.

I could tell you if I was comfortable and would be comfortable bringing the guy home.

What I last posted lol.....I have been in court all day and not had time to go any further in talking to the rescue.

@ sweet thank you for offering to do that I will let you know if I wanna proceed. I still want to ask the rescue some questions.

Thank you for all you advice!

I
think I posted this one before what is wrong with her from looks of pics?

I know there could be mare to mare problems but physically, legs, back, and feet. Do you think she can handle 300 pounds without hurting her or bucking me off? The owner did not know her weight off hand.

ETA:

I just called the owner....she said she is rusty not ridden much. Older lady owns her and does not want to get hurt trying to work with her and she just does not have time. The owner also said she is herd bound and that her niece took her to ride once this year and on the way back the horses started running and this horse gave her fits. That worries me a bit. I would however be in an arena for quite sometime before ever going out. If I had to can have time put on her next spring. The owner took my name and number and said if she has to she will call me if she is gonna rehome her instead of charge for her that would be 30 days training right there. She has been for sale for a while now. Oh yeah she also moved her to her daughters place cause this horse and another horse feed off each others behavior. She said both the horses are herdbound but this on is worse the owner thought.

Why would you even consider such a horse? The prev one was rejected on the basis of a few adjectives...this one has a whole story of bolting and is advertised 'needs intermediate rider'......?????

I'm hoping the 'ETA' was another way of saying 'nevermind, i'll keep looking'.

For once we're in agreement WC LOL.

Run, do not walk, do not pass go from the feedlot horse. I can PM you for more info if you'd like. I have a horse from the Yakima feedlot and whatever rescue/conartist is trying to place horses from there can't be trusted.

That rescue has, among other things, a history of placing sick horses, lame horses, etc.....taking back horses that 'aren't working out' and turning around and sending them back to the feedlot to slaughter, etc etc. They have just about NO history of enforcing their contracts, I believe. They probably pay the feedlot $100 for the horse and then turn around and sell it and pocket the profit. Don't be surprised if the horse is exposed to/has strangles while you're at it. That is pretty common as well.

This is what was said sorry did not update....

Hi,
He is definitely not a beginners horse. He is very well trained and extremely sensitive in the mouth and knows leg and verbal cues etc. I am only riding him with a hackamore and he just is incredibly responsive. He's a really good horse!!
He is a big eater. I give him all he can eat access to endless hay all day and extra grain and alfalfa morning and night + beet pulp. He eats a lot and he does not seem to have gained much weight but will just take extra time. He's a pretty big horse.

Rescue says he can live the rest of his life there if needed so that is good.

Given the choice, I would go with the rescue horse. I just like the way he looks, how he's put together, and looks like he could carry lots of weight.

The mare looks smaller with little legs and just looks sad to me.

You said you will be working with a trainer and the gelding seems like a better fit to me.
